D23 Recap – All Announcements

Something something Anaheim Convention Center and Disney Announcements

ANAHEIM, CA — The every-other-annual D23 expo has just wrapped up, and as is our custom, we have a complete recap of everything that was announced. Movies, parks, executive office toilet paper, and more.

First the boring stuff

There’s always a lot of announcements at D23, and a lot of them are not really worth announcing. And yet, Disney always makes a big deal about them. So we have to include them in our list.

  • A bunch of Marvel and Pixar movies were announced. Most of them are just more boring sequels, or live action remakes nobody asked for.
  • Robert Downey Jr will play another Marvel character that, for contractual reasons, will never be featured in a WDW attraction.
  • Pixar executives still don’t realize that Toy Story 3 was an excellent end to the series, and will drag Woody and Buzz through another movie with a weak premise and even weaker script.
  • There will be a “live action completely CGI” remake of Lilo and The 7 Dwarves.

Slightly more interesting

Now the announcements start to get a little better.

  • There will be a Cars re-theme of the venerable Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom.
  • The new Cars ride will join Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Tom Sawyer Island as part of “Cars Land Adventure”, formerly known as Frontierland. This is a name change only, no actual themes will be changing.
  • Yet another nighttime parade that is NOT “Paint the Night” will be coming to the Magic Kingdom.
  • A minimum of 38% of all new attractions, lands, parks, parking lots or cruise ships going forward will include “Adventure” in the name. [Ed.: We’re not actually sure how this is a change from the present.]

Finally, the good stuff!

And lastly, the announcements that people actually care about.

  • Disney’s long time contact with Charmin is coming to an end. The toilet paper in CEO Bob Iger’s executive office suite will be replaced with Scott Brand tp. (However, all the backstage restrooms in the parks will continue to have 1 ply extra thin sandpaper)
  • 4 new cruise ships, only 2 of which will be named after former Epcot parking lots.
  • “High School Musical, the Musical, The Show, the Musical” will be debuting in Disney+ in 2026, and will repeatedly star Zac Efron and John Travolta as high schoolers, again.
  • After realizing that the people at the Meyer-Wetft shipyard are looking forward to D23 more than the hardcore Disney fans, a new theme park will be built in Meyer-Wetft’s hometown of Papenberg, Germany.
