“Dear (Step) Moms: What do Disney Cast Members do when they’re not at work?” – Bill B., New England

Note: this article was written and scheduled before the Disney parks shutdowns were announced. (Talk about poor timing.) We love Cast Members, and wish them the very best during this difficult time.

X:

Hi Bill. Mostly, they just complain about guests, hours, and pay.

But in all seriousness, they are normal humans, with lives outside Disney. They will spend time with families, go grocery shopping, do yard work, and sometimes just stay home and watch TV. Sure, Disney provides some recreational activities like softball for their cast, but for the most part, they’re left to their own devices.

Walt:

Hi Jean, thanks for asking.

I only see the Cast Members at the parks, so I assume they just live there and don’t do anything outside of the hallowed grounds of the Disney parks. Think about it: when was the last time you saw a Cast Member outside the parks?

Ub:

Hi Jack!

It really depends on where they work. Some CEOs make a sport of saying they’re going to quit several times before they actually do. Cast Members on Disney Cruise Line spend time off work at the theme parks, while the theme park and hotel Cast Members thoroughly enjoy covering shifts on the Cruise Line. Monorail pilots, in general, like to go hang out at Parliament House, while lifeguards tend to knock back a drink or four at Miller’s Ale House on 192.

For bored Cast Members, there is the Emergency Medical Hologram, or EMH – sorry, I mean Extra Hours Hotline, or EHH – where they can pick up shifts screaming at guests. I particularly loved that one when I worked there. Being paid to scream at guests was a dream job for me.

The more technically savvy Cast Members attempt to hack the Cast Deployment System (CDS) and find the Easter eggs that the programmers put into it, while yet more Cast Members spend time creating acronyms for the systems they use. It’s thanks to these bold souls that a CM can check the EHH, or maybe take an ER to go to DHS, but they need to get into CDS and then go to FIW or VM before doing an UPC on Blue and then head to TTC and clock out. This is important because CMs (Cast Members) need to have secret conversations while in public. The KGB (I have no idea what that stands for) has nothing on CMs.

Hope that helps!

Harriet:

Just don’t work at Walt Disney World. There are already enough Cast Members there without you.

Baby Yoda:

Marty:

Hey, Billbo.

Baby Yoda makes a really good point. Nothing against the answers given by Ub & X, but I can’t imagine they know anything about being Disney Cast Members.

Walt actually has it right. Remember when you were in grade school, and you only saw your teachers and principal at the school, so you were convinced they lived there and had no outside lives? Yeah. Same principle applies to Cast Members.

Enjoy your cruise!
