“Dear (Step) Moms: I want to take my family on a cruise, and I like Disney… but Disney Cruise Line prices are quite a lot higher than other cruise lines for the same itinerary! Is a Disney cruise really worth the extra cost?” – Cameron Clifton, Provo UT

Walt:

Hi Cliff, thanks for asking.

I prefer to live life outside the lines. So maybe it’s time for you to stop yourself and ask, is it time to smell the roses? As they say, when life gives you lemons, treat yourself and have the dessert! So I say, book that trip to Boise and live a little!.

Marty:

Provo, Utah? I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you may need to charter an entire deck of cabins for your family. Am I right?

Anyway, you’ll certainly benefit from my advice. Sure, other cruise lines have a lot in common with Disney’s, but in the same way that Six Flags theme parks have a lot in common with Walt Disney World. And we all know which one costs more. (Mukluk Land.)

But if you can’t afford the splurge for you and your 27 kids, here’s what I recommend. Just like Walt Disney World is like Six Flags with Disney characters added, think of a Disney cruise like a non-Disney cruise, but with hidden Mickeys. So save the money, book a non-Disney cruise (Princess is a good choice if you want to fool the kids). And bring a Mickey-head stencil and a few cans of spray paint — you can turn it into an unofficial “Disney” cruise at a fraction of the cost!

Walt:

You know Marty, I enjoy a nice slice of provo cheese, it really works well on a sandwich.

Marty:

Sure, as long as you eat it alone. Provo-lone, get it?

Thank you, folks, I’m here all week. Tip your waitresses.

X:

Since my compatriots are ignoring the real question, I’ll help you out.

I cruised with Carnival. Once. I got back and thought the whole experience was pretty ‘meh.’ Then, a little later, I decided to give Disney Cruise Line a try. Complete night and day difference. Disney has better service, bigger staterooms, better good, more to do on the ship. Pretty much every category, Disney was better than Carnival.

I’m a DCL addict now, I was on 3 cruises in the past year. So, yes, Disney Cruise Line is absolutely worth the extra money.

Marty:

What’s funny or evil about that answer?

X:

Well, I guess it would’ve been funnier if I had reminded everyone that Carnival is like the Dollar General of cruise lines.

Walt:

I’d say more like Five Below.

Harriet:

Just don’t go to Walt Disney World. There are already enough people there without you.
