A Rambling Story that Doesn’t Really Go Anywhere
Looking back over previous food blogs, I feel like I’ve been a bit unfair to you, dear readers. I’ve promised you a recipe, and ended up telling you to go to the park and buy something, rather than making it. I apologize, and promise that this week’s blog will not end with a direction to go to a theme park. I promise that I will provide an actual recipe.
In a previous blog, I mentioned that the Internet loves to try and recreate famous recipes. That hasn’t changed. This week, we’re talking about the Pineapple Dole Whip. A quick Google search yields thousands of results for “Pineapple Dole Whip Recipe.”
But, before we get to the recipe, let’s take a step back. No, not that far back. How do you expect to hear me if you’re that far away?
What, exactly, is a Pineapple Dole Whip, and why is it so popular? Pineapple Dole Whip is, unsurprisingly, a product of the Dole company, and is pineapple flavoured. The best comparison has been “Pineapple flavoured soft serve ice cream.” Which is mostly correct, except the name “Ice Cream” implies cream, whereas the Dole Whip is a non-dairy product.
As for the popularity, I’m not completely sure. Most people describe it using terms that would make you think of a deeply religious experience, or the best sex of your life. It’s not that good. It’s good, no doubt, but not that good.
Even more bizarrely, some people think it’s even better with fresh pineapple juice poured over it, in a float. For me, that’s just too much pineapple. I much prefer to have the pineapple juice with vanilla soft serve. Now THAT is a satisfying treat.
But, I digress. You’re not hear to read about my opinions, you’re here for the recipe.
Finally, we get to the point
One minor note – In order to make this recipe, you’ll need a commercial soft-serve machine. These are easily obtainable on Amazon. You’ll want one with at least a 10-liter storage capacity, but a single-flavor unit will be adequate.
- Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of cold water
- Add 1 4.4 pound bag Dole Soft Serve Mix – Pineapple flavoured
- Stir until mix is completely dissolved
- Add additional cold water to bring the mixture up to the 2 gallon line on the bucket
- Stir well, at least 30 seconds
- Immediately pour the mixture into the soft serve machine
- Turn the machine on for several hours.
- Enjoy!
