The secrets behind one of Universal’s best drinks!

UNCLE WALT’S H.Q., SVALBARD — Time for another episode of everyone’s favorite food blog! This week, we’ll be moving away from Disney park staples and venturing across town to check out the competition. No, not the Holy Land Experience. And no, the Lake Eola Swans are not actually an attraction.

A Rambling Story that Doesn’t Really Go Anywhere

I remember the first time I read the Harry Potter™ novels by J.K. Rowling. I was captivated by the story, my imagination was captured, and I was absolutely flabbergasted that school administrators let all this go on. I also thought to myself, “Self, I like these books. I hope someone turns them into a theme park ride. Or land. Or, you know, just take over Dueling Dragons at IOA and call it something different.” And, lo, it came to pass.

I’ll be one of the first to admit that most of the food offerings at the Wizarding™ World™ of™ Harry Potter™ are pretty awful. Jelly beans? No thanks. Particularly not “Every Flavour Beans” that could give you an earwax flavored jelly bean. Eww. Why? And speaking of ‘eww’, have you ever been inside the Three Broomsticks, and taken a good whiff? Something smells awful in there.

But, the Frozen Butterbeer™ is pretty good. Particularly on a hot Florida summer day. And let’s face it, every day in Florida is a hot summer day. It’s cold. [Ed.: In this case, when they say Frozen Butterbeer, they actually mean cold, not ‘With a likeness of Anna and Olaf plastered all over.’], creamy (well, at least the cream topping), and delicious.

And that brings me to my next point. People on the Internet are absolutely obsessed with making imitation recipes. You can find “perfect” replicas of everything from Red Lobster Cheddar Biscuits to Cinnabons to Papa John’s Pizza Dough. I’m not sure why. I guess it’s a “if you post a recipe on Pinterest, they (followers) will come” type thing. And don’t get me wrong, some of the recipes are pretty decent, even though they’re nothing at all close to the original.

There are a lot of recipes for Frozen Butterbeer on the internet. Some of them call for Cream Soda, some call for Dr Pepper, and one even calls for Faygo Redpop. None of them really captures the taste that you get in the parks. At best, it’s like watching Gremlins and someone telling you that they’re House Elves. Close-ish, but not really.

Fear not! I, and I alone, have discovered the holy grail. I have discovered the one true recipe! And, for your beverage-enjoying enjoyment, I will print the recipe below.

Finally, we get to the point

So, without further ado, the result of many many hours of labor, and attempts to create the perfect frozen Butterbeer, here is the recipe:

  1. Go to Universal Orlando Resort’s Islands of Adventure Theme™ Park.
  2. Walk to the back of the park.
  3. Find the Butterbeer cart.
  4. Hand the nice Team Member $7.99.
  5. Specify that you want a Frozen Butterbeer.
  6. Enjoy!
