“Dear (Step) Moms: The holiday season is approaching! What is your favorite thing about Walt Disney World at Christmastime, and when is the best time to visit?” – Cindy Torborg, Idaho Falls ID

Walt:

Hi Cindy, thanks for asking.

My favorite things about Christmas at Walt Disney World are the Osborne Lights, the Christmas version of Illuminations, the Christmas Safari, and of course the Christmas version of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at the Magic Kingdom.

I recommend going on Tuesday.

Marty:

Don’t we have a one-question limit? We really should have a one-question limit. I don’t have time for this. Anyway,…

Dear Borg, forget everything else that happens at Walt Disney World during the holidays. This year will be special, because it is the debut of the Star Wars Holiday Special decorations and events in the new Galaxy’s Edge area! We’ll have an article later with more details, but think of it — you’ll get to celebrate Life Day with the animatronic Bea Arthur and all of Chewie’s relatives!

Oh, and if we don’t have a one-question limit, which we should, the best time to go during the holidays is February. There are fewer decorations and less holiday-themed entertainment, sure, but the crowds are much lighter.

Walt:

Specifically, Tuesdays in February.

X:

I’m just the token Jewish guy. All I can say is that Hanukkah is woefully under-represented at Disney World.

Walt:

Specifically, Tuesdays in February.

Ub:

Hello there, Cynthia, and thank you for writing in.

The holidays are a spectacular time at Walt Disney World, and the holidays are no exception. By far, my favorite thing about Christmastime is the Disco Yeti, the way that they change his strobes so that it almost seems like he’s actually swiping at you as you leave the climax of Expedition Everest.

Everyone knows that at Disneyland they redecorate the Haunted Mansion and convert the Jungle Cruise to the R-rated Jingle Cruise for Christmas, but many people miss the Christmas decorations on The Barnstormer, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, The Walt Disney World Railroad, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.

It’s important that you play your part in decorating these attractions for Christmas, so bring your nicest red bows, wreaths, and glitter, and make sure that as you ride these attractions, you throw out the decorations along the way. The folks in park management, engineering, and custodial will appreciate your efforts.

Also, some days and times are better for assisting in the decoration, so make sure you check your park guides.

Walt:

Specifically, Tuesdays in February.
