There's some CMs who won't tell somebody they can't smoke where they are because they are afraid of confrontation. I'm not one of them. I politely tell the guest that smoking isn't permitted where they are and point them in the direction of the nearest designated area. Only rarely do they get upset and yell at me about it, usually they'll put out the cigarette and move on.Syndrome wrote:And I'll toss in a marginally on-topic question: Why is it people you're with get embarrassed if you tell people to put out their cig when they're in a non-smoking area? When I lived in IL back in the dark ages of smoking/non-smoking sections, smokers would light up in non on a fairly frequent basis. I'd either get a waitress to tell 'em to knock it off or do it myself if I was close enough. Mr. Syndrome is used to it and would probably tell 'em himself if I didn't first, but at times we were out with friends or family they'd want to crawl into a hole. I never figured out why...I am telling someone to follow the stinking rules. If anyone should be embarrassed, it's the smoker.
That's another thing, sometimes I tell them they can't smoke somewhere and then they wonder where they can put it out. I want to tell them "should have thought of that BEFORE you lit up in the first place, because where were you going to dispose of the butt?"
