There is stupid, Criminally stupid, and then there's Death penalty stupid.
Today, I found out how stupid people truly can be. At eleven am or so I was just being bumped to my break from the cart at DTD, when a young woman, maybe 22 or 23, stopped me, and very respectfully asked where the designated smoking areas were . Now at DTD, for those of you who don't know, the rules are this, You may smoke in any open space so long as you are not in the child zones. I informed her of this, and she asked if I minded if she sat on the ledge by my cart as her family was shopping in the pin traders location. Both me and the girl giving me my bump said we did not have a problem with this.
Now, no sooner than this poor woman light up and take a puff, some busy body comes over and starts to yell at the woman for smoking in public. Seeing this I turned back tword the woman and told her that the woman with the cig was fine and that I in fact had given her permission to be where she was. Did that stop the woman, nope. With one movement that cought everyone off guard, she grabbed the cigeret right out of the other woman's mouth. Then with a grin she reported that she didn't care, she didn't want to get cancer.
I was dumb founded. I the roles were reversed and I was in the other woman's shoes and some dumb health nut did that to me, I would have gotten up and politely decked them.

VISA. It's everywhere you want to be, and a lot of places you don't.

Security? If you don't want second hand smoke and you are in an area where people are smoking and are allowed to, MOVE!Driver_dylan wrote:Seeing this I turned back tword the woman and told her that the woman with the cig was fine and that I in fact had given her permission to be where she was. That is the most outrageous thing I have ever heard! If she wanted to bum one she could have just asked. ;)

When the new 'smoking' law went in affect last year, guess who got to enforce it at work? "US" (security/loss prevention). Within the first week,we had 2 complaints filed against us (the company that is) not the customer on customer b.s. The sad part is,some little kid can be jumping around the inside of their parents car/truck,and TPD won't do shit, unless 'they' see it happen.
ps,btw,I smoke.

I so wish the lady who had her cigarette grabbed had claimed assault.
I don't smoke, but that is offensive to me.

Oh that really was rude... you can't just grab someone else's property and destroy it, (which is essentially what she did to the cig.) She owe's that smoker a pack now or something...
But... given that different states have different smoking laws... I'm playing devils advocate here, is it possible that the person was in violation of the SG's home state/municipality laws, and SG was simply to stupid to realize that your explanation was stating that they were NOT in violation of Florida law, rather than you having given them the OK to go ahead and smoke despite the law?
I'm not saying that would EXCUSE her... by no means, but that it might explain why she would ignore YOU trying to tell her it was ok...

But the problem is, it doesn't matter what the laws back home are.
One of the wonderful things about living in the United States is that in some cases, other than say, murder, you can choose your laws by where you live.
Do you support the death penalty? Well, I hear Texas's chamber collects very little dust. Or, on the other hand, you could go with New Jersey that outlawed the death penalty.
Please note, I am not asking you to answer the question of whether you support the death penalty or somoking, or whether you don't; death penalty is a can of worms I opened for example and am closing RIGHT NOW, before it even becomes a question of getting out of hand. Around here, I don't care what you think about it and you don't care about my opinion on it, right? Everyone nod. Good. :D:
So back to my original thought: It doesn't matter what the laws for that lady are back home. In Washington state, you can't smoke within 25' of any door, window, vent, chimney or coughing pig. There, you can't even light up at the local Cigar shop. Whereas I say a bar owner should have the right to decide whether their bar is a smoking establishment, back in Oregon and Washington, they can't. But that is how those states decided the issue, and that is the point that I am attempting to make. Since Florida and Disney allow smoking outside at DTD, the lady taking that cigarette has no leg to stand on.
Since it came up, here is an interesting mapfound on Wikipedia. Use its information at your own risk, as it is Wikipedia.

Yes, but there it causes you a physical pain that you can't move away from. In that case, I say don't get the camera or flash wet. If it looks expensive, send it my way. They don't need it.
But do be so kind as to give their SG SD card back, as I don't want it.
On second thought, send that my way, too. Might have something to post here.

Good lord! Mind you, if someone lights up in a non-smoking area, I am the first one to tell 'em to put it out. But to lay into someone in an area where it's allowed, and then to grab the cig? Totally, utterly unacceptable. I too think she should have claimed assault. As much of an anti-smoking zealot as I am, I have a chain smoking brother so I do have sympathy for the darkside.
And I'll toss in a marginally on-topic question: Why is it people you're with get embarrassed if you tell people to put out their cig when they're in a non-smoking area? When I lived in IL back in the dark ages of smoking/non-smoking sections, smokers would light up in non on a fairly frequent basis. I'd either get a waitress to tell 'em to knock it off or do it myself if I was close enough. Mr. Syndrome is used to it and would probably tell 'em himself if I didn't first, but at times we were out with friends or family they'd want to crawl into a hole. I never figured out why...I am telling someone to follow the stinking rules. If anyone should be embarrassed, it's the smoker.
