Yup.
Its pretty bizarre that people don't get that. I mean, its not exactly a difficult concept!

Try this one on for size-
Macy's Thanksgiving Day inflation 2008
I'm standing in front of Beethoven, a large balloon, of a SAINT BERNARD...
Father walks up with son on shoulders and says...
"Look son, Clifford the big red dog"
I looked at Dad, smiled at the kid and said,
"Well, it's actually Beethoven. Clifford is much bigger and RED"
The son said "I told you dad"
I'm not a tourist cause I work there...

We had a funny SG interaction along those lines meeting Mulan in Epcot. The kiddo are getting autographs and this 20ish guy walks up next to me and says breathlessly "Wow, she's beautiful! Who is she?" "Mulan," I answer. "Is she like from a movie or something?" "
MULAN! {note the emphasis}" I answer. He goes over and starts hitting on her and -Amazing - her set ends so she has to go. So sad.

If I had a dime for every time a Guest came up to me and asked for a non-Disney character, I'd be very rich.
Tweety, Daffy Duck and Shrek were the most popular.
But I'll admit, I got hit with one that stumped even me once.
Working Guest Service on the WOD floor when a Guest comes up to me and asks about "Scritch" plush and I said "Oh, you mean STITCH. I'll show you.." and they're like "No, no! SCRITCH!" and I finally asked "OK, who's Scritch?"
"He's a chipmunk."
... "You mean Chip and Dale?"
"No, his name is Scritch! Don't you know your own characters?"
"Well, what's he in?"
"He was in the Ice Age movie!"
... "Ice Age is not a Disney movie."
"It's not?"
"No, I think it's Dreamworks."
"So, Disney didn't make it?"
"No, sorry."
"So, where can I find Scritch?"
Trust me, I was ready for my break after this one.

How about where is Anastasia? thinking about the non-disney movie.
But, one of Lady Tramaine's daughters is named that too.

I didn't work at Disney when Anastasia came out, so I was lucky enough to dodge that bullet.
Of course, if someone did ask about Anastasia, I could honestly answer "Oh, you mean the Dreamworks movie that freaked the front office out so much, we felt the need to rush Little Mermaid back into theaters to make sure it didn't make any money? Sorry, don't have anything from it."

I spent three years working as a friend to baby Shamu at Sea World. Unfortunately, the 2nd year I was there was the year Free Willy came out. Apparently, every killer whale is now legally to be known by the name "Free Willy!" (note: not just willy, but free willy. Free is the first name, you see, and Willy the surname!)

I've been lucky with that one. So far no one has confused the two (yet).

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

I still have family members who think that Anastasia and Shrek are Disney flicks. I get tired of constantly trying to set them straight. They think "animated = Disney" and nothing changes their minds.

I have the book on Betty Boop, as well as the video collection. The book points out the the Fleischer brothers, creators of Betty Boop, were known as "the Anti-Disneys". Betty's way of walking was based on that of the hookers the brothers saw outside their studio windows, and the plots of her movies were based more on real-life, from a Jewish immigrant viewpoint, whereas Disney's were based on fantasy. As the Fleischer Studios and Walt Disney studios grew, Disney kept approaching Fleischer employees, especially their animators, trying to steal them away from Fleischer. Very interesting book. Of course, now Fleischer Studios is gone, and Disney is very much alive.
