WOW!
I'm glad it all worked out. :)
This was the miracle you were hoping for.
Next step- a job and a car so you hopefully never be in this position again.
I was looking online about a group called Project Dignity that helps people forced to live in hotels in the OC with food, etc. The article said there are over 1000 families in the OC in that position, many of them formerly middle income with jobs.
Good Luck.
But why did your sister and not your father tell you that he couldn't help you?
It would be a good idea to tell him of your plans, but ask him to be a back-up
just in case.

Re: My Mom passed away
No internet--don't know if it's an outage or somebody paid their bill late--so I'm at the library. Forget my sister--she says mean things all the time under stress that really hurt, and has most of my life. Laurie, I tried to call you yesterday, but the lady who answered said I had the wrong number. I could've sworn I dialed right. Sounded like you, though. Maybe not.
My landlady fed me for the first couple days, but yesterday I went to Trader Joe's and got some stuff. Was it Blanche in "A Streetcar Named Desire" who said "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers."?
I just feel weird when people give me stuff that's not specifically included.
Anyway, pray that the internet goes back on over there, I have a Tracfone now and tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment.
It's an old house that's been divided into rooms. They're working on it, mostly painting. I hardly ever see any of the other roomers, and I seem to be the only one eating there. And this headcold makes it hard to determine if they're all eating out or living on sandwiches. I can't smell much of anything, and it's so quiet the loudest thing you normally hear is traffic or airplanes from John Wayne.
I got here early, had over an hour before they opened, so I went over to South Coast Plaza. We used to do our back to school clothes shopping there when I was a kid, before the Laguna Hills Mall opened. Not only has it really expanded, it's gone upscale! They still have the carousel, but the Chef V restaurants are long gone. We used to eat there, usually inb the Italian restaurant, after getting our school clothes and then ride the carousel. I can't really remember what the other four restaurants were in there now....
I lost 5 pounds. Funny thing is, when I went to renew my I.D. card, I put that I weighed 208--I actually weighed 208 1/2, but figured it was no big deal. I get my I.D. card--the weight on it says 202 pounds! Think I'm gonna change that? :D: Hey, now I'm just 1 1/2 pounds more than it says! HEHE!
Yeah, a job is next on the agenda--gotta try to figure out how to get to the Orange County Research Center from here, the bus book I have is from last fall, and they change them every 3 months, and they don't have them just anywhere like they used to....

Well, bus maps and schedules is certainly an item I can help with. They can be found online at http://www.octa.net/schedules_maps.aspx.

Re: My Mom passed away
You probably ran into my mother if it sounded like me and ask for Laurie. Say you are her online friend. Mom is bats at times. Glad you and Tripod are doing fine. Maybe they are robots like in a science fiction story or they eat out, lol.

Re: My Mom passed away
No, I've seen them take rice, etc. back to their room, the fridge has food for the other people, and when I was shown this room the girl who was moving out had a mini fridge and a microwave in there. I have seen the two guys go out for groceries, etc..
I wish I could get internet--the library has its limits. I can get scedules online for the buses. Kinda sucks they're online only, because their trip planner is not the greatest. And that's being charitable.
Tried to get a dial-up connection on my computer, but it said it couldn't get a dial tone. Funny how I had no trouble when I plugged my old phone in. And I still can't get one with my router. I'll try to check in as often as I can--the first hour is always taken up with email. You know you get alot when you don't check it everyday, and come in a week later and you have like 50 emails waiting--and half of them are surveys which I like doing. Yeah, gotta find a job--In'N'Out isn't too far away. It's starting to get late--better finish and get home.

Maybe Chris or one of the other guys can figure out how to get you on line.
Glad to see you are alive and not on the street.

Sister-in-law has unlimited access with AT&T aircard. Don't know cost per month but think it is around $70.00

Re: My Mom passed away
Well, finally called my sister who I thought was going to call me so we could go pmy name on what used to be mom and her's joint account--I'll be going to her place tomorrow, and I'll ask her about getting my computer reconnected. I see routers in the front room of the house, and the other day the girl that's in the room next to mine had her door open, and I saw she was using her computer--but for all I know, she could've been working offline. And if that's the room I might be getting next month or so--it didn't look that much bigger than mine. If I could get my bedframe under my bed, that would create more storage space. My boxes are in the garage, suitcases are in my room.
Got the check from mom's insurance--they took $100 out for taxes, and I get $900. Gotta get Tripod to the vet soon--she runs out of pills the 20th, needs her shots and T-4 bloodwork (thyroid), and somehow she picked up some fleas at the old apartment, so I might need to get her some Advantage. My sister says she'll send me $200/month for groceries--I don't think I'll need all that, so I'll just sock away the rest.

That is great news and if you are careful you can make it last. Big hugs and glad to see you are sort of flying on your own. It is not a private million dollar get but it is a start. I AM PROUD OF YOU. way to go and big hugs.
