My Mom passed away

Leaking/ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. I was housesitting at my sister's bosses' house for the weekend, was supposed to come home Monday, and today my niece came and told me mom was in ICU and that my sister's bosses were on their way home. I got to see her while she was still alive; they came in and did a sonagram, I was taken home, and while my other sister and her fiance were eating lunch, they got the call that mom passed away.

I'm unemployed, been looking for work unsuccessfully, and I owe Sallie Mae Services over $30,000 in student loans. They're on forbearance, but that only lasts so long. The apartment is paid for until the end of March, though our lease ends in September. My family can't help me out. I cashed out my 401K a couple years ago, and have no savings. I won't get enough from mom's estate to rent an apartment. Even renting a room costs over $650 around here. I'm not sure what's going to happen next.

Take comfort that she's now in a better place, and isn't suffering anymore.

As to the situation in the here and now, I don't know what to say. Have you perhaps thought about moving elsewhere. It seems everywhere is in a funk these days, but a change in scenary may help, somewhat.

And if things get really bad....I found this thing in some of my Aunt's Church Bulletins. I'll admit, I'm not a very religious person, but I still think they might be able to help. It's a service administered by the Catholic Charities of Orange County that provides crisis intervention for those bordering on homelessness:

It would take a lot of repairing or I would let you stay in my old room which Calvin could fix up. Bathroom is not fit for roaches and the shower will not drain without mega bucks of repairs. I will on the first give you money to get by and on the third a bit more. Do not worry as you have family here and somehow we will get you through this. Do not know how SGT can help you but I know I will be there however I can help.

I am so sorry.
Maybe your sister can help out at this difficult time, until things get better, and you can arrange for a job/housing.
You know, there are a lot of elderly out there looking for a good live-in caretaker, maybe one of those agencies could assist with placement.
