CBMT-TV/CBC Montreal: Montreal woman avoids jail for calling 911 thousands of times
Received this in an e-mail from relatives back in Canada, this just ticks me off on so many levels.
She and her then-brother-in-law called 911 9,916 times in a span of 15 months, averaging out to about 32 calls a day. At times it got to the point that she was able to effectively cripple the Greater Montreal 911 system, preventing actual calls from getting through.
What's even more infuriating is the reason she did so.
It's not really mentioned in the CBC article, but, translating from the French-language sources, she apparently did so because of "hate of Police Officers, a desire to seek revenge against the system due to issues her [ex-BIL] has had with regards to Child Custody for his son, immaturity and, it seems, just out of boredom".
Yep, you read that right, she was bored, thus she decided to call 911

And finally, the thing that gets me most of all. She's effectively getting away with it.
She received a 7-month suspended sentence, most of which will be served under house arrest, followed by 18 months probation and a stern slap on the wrist not to do it again. Oh...and she's banned from owning a Cell Phone (like that will stop her).
And all that because her lawyer argued that she has "matured" since then and has entered Anger-Management theraphy (never mind that she flashed the bird on Province-Wide television, and said things that caused the Canadian French-language media, which is very permissive and routinely drops the F-bomb and such as part of their normal broadcasting, to actually employ the *beep* for once :rolleyes :) .....
It's times like these that I'm really embarrased to call myself Canadian/a Quebecer
