Canadian Woman Calls 911 10000 Times

Post by glendalais » Sun Mar 01, 2009 3:23 am

La Presse: Une serial caller écope de sept mois dans la collectivité (in French)
CBMT-TV/CBC Montreal: Montreal woman avoids jail for calling 911 thousands of times

Received this in an e-mail from relatives back in Canada, this just ticks me off on so many levels.

She and her then-brother-in-law called 911 9,916 times in a span of 15 months, averaging out to about 32 calls a day. At times it got to the point that she was able to effectively cripple the Greater Montreal 911 system, preventing actual calls from getting through.

What's even more infuriating is the reason she did so.

It's not really mentioned in the CBC article, but, translating from the French-language sources, she apparently did so because of "hate of Police Officers, a desire to seek revenge against the system due to issues her [ex-BIL] has had with regards to Child Custody for his son, immaturity and, it seems, just out of boredom".

Yep, you read that right, she was bored, thus she decided to call 911   .

And finally, the thing that gets me most of all. She's effectively getting away with it.

She received a 7-month suspended sentence, most of which will be served under house arrest, followed by 18 months probation and a stern slap on the wrist not to do it again. Oh...and she's banned from owning a Cell Phone (like that will stop her).

And all that because her lawyer argued that she has "matured" since then and has entered Anger-Management theraphy (never mind that she flashed the bird on Province-Wide television, and said things that caused the Canadian French-language media, which is very permissive and routinely drops the F-bomb and such as part of their normal broadcasting, to actually employ the *beep* for once :rolleyes :) .....

It's times like these that I'm really embarrased to call myself Canadian/a Quebecer :o: *shakes head*.

I can see the phone company removing all the phone plugs and taking away all the phones.

If you call 9-1-1, they charge you 95 cents each time. That would be 10,000 x 95=$9,500 plus tax. That is not worth calling.

I know up in Ventura County, they're now charging $50 per 911 Call (or a $1.49 monthly fee on your phone bill).

A little bit ridiculous, IMO, but it does work to keep people from calling because the neighbour's tree is growing into their yard.

Reminds me when 911 was instituted. People were calling for the location of all-night hardware stores, etc.. One little boy called 911 because his brother wouldn't share toys with him. I think it took awhile before people finally got the idea that it was for fire, police, and paramedics, not an information line. Some people just don't get the complete memo....

I hope they don't start charging my clinic for those calls.....
people come in all the time with symptoms of having an MI, stroke, overdose
all the time, despite that it says "No Emergency Services" out front
Urgent Care is not the same as EMERGENCY care, folks, although we ARE trained in some emergency procedures just in case. If your care is beyond our scope, we'll do what we can and call 911.
Of course, if some clown is holding up the system with fake calls, they should be strung up!

I have seen SG approach cast members. This one SG lady asked a cast member if they could call 9-1-1. The cast member asked why and the lady said the has lost her husband and he has been missing for 5 minutes. come on, get serious. Disneyland employees call 9-1-1 when there is a true emergancy. If they need help, send the SG to City Hall and leave a hand writen message.

That's surprising. Most wives would relish losing their husbands for five or ten minutes.

I think the same thing can be said for the husbands about their wives.

No, no, no. We love our wives all to pieces and never want to be separated from them for even a second. (Why is my nose growing?)
