Back where I grew up my internal compass works great. I always knew which way was north and if I got confused and was in town itself I only had to wait for the next helicopter to fly over to know which way was which. See, I grew up in Milton, FL and we have Whiting Field Naval Air Station north of town. Whiting is one of the more important flight training bases for the whole military and if you fly or flew copters in the military you most likely went through Whiting Field. Well, in the mornings the helicopters would fly south from the base right over town to get to the outlying fields for practice and in the afternoon/evening fly back to base, earlier if inclement weather was coming into the area. Copters flying over is a normal thing in Milton and most of the time one doesn't even notice them really because they are so used to them.ktulu wrote:That's why I love where I grew up. My internal compass is getting better but it is still a little out of whack after moving down here. I pretty much always knew north anywhere in the Milton/Pensacola area but down here if I go to a part of town I don't go to often or never have been too I tend to lose north.
