After working at Muppet Vision for many years, I can answer that. It's because the polarized lenses of the 3D glasses can actually be harmful to your eyes if worn for long periods. They also don't offer UV protection like real sunglasses, so we didn't want people wearing them out into the park a) thinking that they were protecting their eyes from the sun when they were not, or b) actually harming their eyes with the polarized lenses, and c) running into people or things because they do cause your eyes to view separately which can cause some problems with depth perception.

The problem is that those glasses will burn your eyes and blind you if you use them outside. That is the main reason we are VERY adamant about getting them off of people. So that is why it has been merchandized yet.

You and I just posted that at the very same time. Us 3D theatre people think alike!

LOL! The scary thing is that I don't work a 3-D attraction. I just share the area with one and thus we are always on the lookout for glasses.

I don't get why people would want to wear the 3D glasses outside the theatre. Watching Muppet*Vision last month I had to take them off once or twice during the show as they made my eyes hurt. They just aren't comfortable for me to wear for any length of time.

Thats why the lens would "rotate. In 3D mode, to sunglass mode!

But you know SGs, they would leave it on 3D mode and burn off their corneas.

And then sue WDW, The Disney Corporation, Walt Disney Pictures, the manufacturer of the glasses, and whoever else they can think of no matter how many warnings there were on the glasses, packaging, and store display.CMGUY89 wrote:But you know SGs, they would leave it on 3D mode and burn off their corneas.
To me it just makes sense to put the glasses in the bin but then again I'm no stupid guest so I don't truly understand how they think.
