The First Time's The Best Time
Re: The First Time's The Best Time
DH and I went in November, 1988. It wasn't his first time, as he'd spent part of his growing up years in Florida, but it was mine. My first time was SUPPOSED to be 10 years earlier, but the Blizzard of '78 hit Boston and my parents never did re-book it.
We went again in 2000, taking our then 4 year old daughter for the first time. Seeing it through her eyes was far more magical than the 1988 trip (though that was fun, too).

I grew up not too far from DL, so I had so many trips I was probably too young to remember the first one. I've found pictures from 1984 or 1985, when I was a toddler, that might have been from my first trip.
Our son's first trip was in May 2006 when he was 4 months old. He didn't understand much of what was going on, but he loved having a private meet with the characters at Club 33. He's been back three more times since, and each time taking him has been more magical than going there when I was a kid.

Re: The First Time's The Best Time
First time wasn't best for me. It was '78 or '79 and all I remember was my dad b****ing the whole time about EVERY thing possible (the money, the lines, the heat, the tickets (still had A,B,C,D,E tickets)..
It was miserable and actually put me off of going to Disney for a long while (until I was an adult)..

My first trip to DL was about 1971 I was 5, it was the first trip my folk took without the new baby who was about 9 months old and has been terrorizing me ever since. My first trip to WDW was 1976, my old man was a Jaycee and wanted to do a national convention in Miami so my mom made him take us to WDW also. My little sister was about 6 and I turned 10 while were were on the trip but not at WDW. Things sure have changed a lot since then, i had quite a few years where I didnt make it to DL and when I returned I just couldnt stay away and when I whent online to plan a trip to WDW I was blown away by what they had done there.

First trip to Disneyworld was June, 1980 for my senior class trip. It was amazing! Skyway, Haunted Mansion, and my favorite: If you could fly. (It was free, airconditioned, and never had a line!)
First trip to Disneyland was last Monday. I'm still in awe of actually having been there. It wasn't crowded and I was able to do more than I thought I would (due to health issues) and on Friday night....
I got to see Tinkerbelle FLY!!
Just like on the old Wonderful World of Disney (now in color!) when I was five years old. For that fifteen minutes, I was five years old again. My legs didn't hurt. My hands weren't shaking. I was just in wonder.
Morning
BTW, special thanks to Pluto at California Adventure on May 16th, early afternoon. A hug made me smile!

My first trip to WDW was in 1992. I was 22 and now we have been so many times I have lost count. Is there a way to find out? We've only stayed off site twice.
My first trip to DL was May of 2007. I won a contest at work and we had to go to Hollywood for 3 days of meetings. How could I be that close and not go? So I talked our travel dept. into giving me a departing flight a few days after the meetings were over.

Disneyland - 1966 (Dad was stationed at Edwards AFB) I was 2!
WDW - 1971 (Dad was stationed at McDill, where he retired and we remained)
I remember going to WDW while they still had the scaffolding on the mosaic in the castle, and talking to a lady that was working on it. I was MUCH more fascinated by the tiles making a picture than I was with the castle, LOL. I guess that's what they got for taking me to Disneyland so many times!
Not sure how many years we've had APs - I've been buying my own since I married in 1993, but have had them many years prior, since my parents have a "can't get enough" attitude toward Disney.

Re: The First Time's The Best Time
First time to DL was back in January 1979. I was 2 1/2 years old. I don't remember a lot of it. I do remember being in utter amazement at everything around me. I have several pictures of myself with the characters (I was never afraid of them) including one of me kissing Eeyore. (I was crazy for the Pooh characters back then.) It was love at first sight and I feel lucky that I have been able to go several times since.
The first time I went to WDW was in June 1985. I was 8 1/2 and my brother was 4 1/2. Again it was utter amazement. I had seen pictures and film of WDW but nothing prepared me for seeing up and close. The Magic Kingdom was nice, but Epcot Center was our favorite and we spent the most time there. When I returned to WDW in 1997 and walked into Epcot, it was like visiting an old friend.
Still dreaming of the day when I visit Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

Not exactly sure of the date but Space Mountain did not exist.
I have never been to the original but want to someday.

Re: The First Time's The Best Time
Hmm, don't remember the exact first time since my mom is a Disney freak as well. Started taking me about a month after I was born. I've seen the pics. :shudder: Pink, pink. pink.
Anyhow, my first time I remember was 1977. It was my birthday, rainy and awesomely empty.
Fell in love with Mansion and Pirates that day and never stopped.
