I miss Mission to Mars, Flying Saucers, Keelboats, Motorboats, and People Mover. Thoes were the days my friends sigh.

I think part of this may have to do with attendance profiles.
When HM reopened last year I was talking to a manager there about accessibility changes, getting some clarifications.
I brought up the subject if they had revised it to handle the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. His response was that about 70% of the people coming to WDW every year are first time Guests. At DLR it is about 70% repeat guests, which is why they do things such as HMH or SWH.
