Susi, I was wondering if you had considered going by train instead? Amtrak has routes from Denver to L.A., and you can take the Metrolink from L.A. to DL, or close to it. You're going to pay more, especially if you have to have a private roomette with service to avoid the germs from the other passengers, but I was thinking it might be worth it. Actually, Amtrak has a station it shares with Metrolink in Anaheim, at Angel Stadium, and you could rent a car from there, or take the bus (bus fare is $1.25 one way). Check it out: http://www.amtrak.com , http://www.metrolinktrains.com , http://www.octa.net .

We did not have any open houses. In the two weeks it was on the market it was shown about 15 times; each time their agent was with the potential buyers. (This was designed to prevent small items from walking away.)

Most of the time we were home. When the potential buyers arrived we would go to the family room in the basement. When they were done with the top floor and were in the kitchen, we would go upstairs, and then they would finish downstairs.

And we did not do any cosmetic work, but did get Service Master in for two days to do a real deep cleaning, and also clean the rugs.
Yeah no open houses. And we HAD to have our house staged by a professional (it is a 6100 sq ft luxury home in a **Nice** neighborhood  ) I was so pissed at the stager, because she packed up EVERYTHING and I mean, everything I needed. Like all my sweaters and winter clothes??? Hello!!! It snows here in Denver in the Winter and now we have been through 2 since she put them all in storage. I had to buy some new sweaters and coats. That costs! And I don't need them, if I am gonna move to Florida! I will donate them to the coat drive here in the Winter. I shoulda followed her around even more than I did. She got pissed because I wanted things a certain way. I fired her.

We have had only single showings by appt. and the agent is supposed to stay with the folks the whole time. We are not allowed to be here when they show, but we were for one and I am glad. It was an eye opener. We just pulled it off the market for now, because it has been a year a half on. It gets stale and if we wait til it is empty and we are gone, then it can show all it wants with no problems. Heck, they can even have an open house. Ain't gonna be nothing of mine left here to steal! ;)

We have a shitload of stuff in storage already that was SUPPOSED to be sold at a yard sale, but thanks to the overzealous stager, I now have to move it and pay by weight to move it, and have my garage sale where ever we end up! Grrrrrr..... That bitch ended up costing us more than we ever thought. I hate stagers, since I decorate and have a great eye. If it had not been for my back, I would have done it all myself. Back problems do not make for a good stager and moving heavy furniture! ;(

When it goes back on the market, we will be out of it and it will be empty. Not as much as a dustbunny left here. And I hope the Orion's ghost, who I keep seeing all over the house, comes with us! :)

I HATE selling a house. We have done it several times. We had several rentals in california and decided NOT to be landlords anymore and that was fun, NOT! And we sold the place we lived in in Berkeley, actually that one was fairly easy. This one is gonna be a bitch, due to the market, it could be a few years to unload it. We had most of the hits on our website from Silicon Valley! Figures. it is that type of home. I don't know why on God's green earth we bought this, well....I know why, but all those circumstances have changed and we no longer need this big place. I WANT OUT NOW!!!!!!!

GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:??? Running a rich mixture, were we?? Course I would think twice about going into O'hare in a Cessna!!
Cheshire Figment wrote:It was a retractable. I had the throttle at full, gear and flaps up, and I was in a shallow descent. I was doing 145kts, while a B-727 in full landing configuration does about 120 kts.

But I was with a couple of friends, and we were going to a Mensa Convention at the Ramada Inn O'Hare, so why not go into the closest airport?

And even with the parking and landing fees (as well as aircraft rental), it actually cost less than airline and gave a bit more scheduling freedom. Of course, I quit any drinking around midnight Saturday, and we did not depart until about 2:00pm.
Let's sing it again, Pilots!

YO HO, YO HO,
A Pilots Life for me!

Har, har, har...**snicker** oh by the way, that was a Slicker Snicker! :D: ;)

I've done this. Amtrak can book you all the way thru to Anaheim. Using Metrolink can make for a shorter layover in Los Angeles, but then you have to wrestle your own luggage on and off.

Besides, LAUPT is just across the square from Olvera Street -- the prototype for Epcot's Mexico pavilion -- and a couple of great Mexican restaurants.

The Anaheim station is about a mile from Disneyland. With luggage, I'd take a cab -- the bus is cheap but again you're having to wrestle your luggage, and the natives aren't likely to help.

Anyone have questions about Amtrak travel, I've ridden it all over the country.

Sounds like something we should definitely look into. We love the train, have taken The California Zephyr to No Cal on many trips, never So Cal. Could be just what the Doctor ordered!
Thanks for making me aware of that, I did not even think to consider the train to So Cal, due to the area being so big with lots of traffic. I did not know that DL was so close. And a cab would work just fine. I don't want to wrestle with too much luggage. That could be a fun trip. The train is always part of the fun for us!

Have you ever thought of contacting Marvin the Torch and Benny the Bug for assistance? Then you collect the insurance and sell "unimproved land".

That's only because you were in our Hotel Room at the DL Hotel and SAW just HOW MUCH luggage I bring on a trip and how big that refrigerator sized suitcase was! Hahahahahahahaha
The only reason I had that much this trip was because we were SUPPOSED to go north for another whole week and couldn't due to illness. I am learning to pack better. BUT.....Just wait til our WDW trip in May.... Mwahahahahahahahaaha
Susi*I pack my whole closet AND the kitchen sink!*slicker

I am afraid they have really good investigators these days and it wouldn't pass the sniff test. :( Noooooooo...I are afeared we are gonna be owned by this place for a while, til the market turns anyway! But that will NOT stop us from moving out of it and to the lush land of Florida and happiness! Well, I am not unrealistic enough to believe that I will be happy ALL the time there, but happier than I am here. I have friends there AND IF for some reason we end up in OC, California and work at DL, then we have friends there too and I will still be happier there than I am here!
I am soooooooooooo... lonely here! And it is gonna snow again...*sniff* *sniff* WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! :(

Okay campers, I will have the pics of Club 33 up today at my PhotoBucket site. I will let you know when you all can stampede over there and peer enviously at our trip to the magic! heeheehee!
It was nice. Impeccable service, beautiful place, food, I have to agree with Zazu, I have had better. Ralph had a steak, ordered it med rare, got it med well, :( and he found some really wilted (black) leaves in his salad. Ugh! I had the Three Pasta dish. It was quite good, but I have had better. I did enjoy the fresh crab abnd shrimp! I love seafood! Mmmmmmmmmm....

However, the dessert table, I mean trough, was amazing!!!!!!
And when I say the service was impeccable, I mean it. I have never had service like that anywhere. It was phenomenal. The wait staff have all been there for 20-30 yrs and they know how to serve in that setting. It was my dream come true to just see the place's history. I was agog at all the beautiful Victorian pieces and I want to decorate my home that way. I have a slight French Country/Victorian feel to my home, but ain't nuthin like that! WOW!!!! Lillian had amazing taste. I want those pieces for my home!!!!
It is beautiful! We will probably get to go next year again for the birthday! We were well behaved and caused no trouble! :)
Anyway, I will let you know when the pics are up over at photobucket. It takes a while to bulk upload there.
Be patient!
