*nods* Paginus Grimlove. Incredible archer. IIRC, he even tried out for the Olympics, using a traditional recurve bow. He didn't make the team, of course (there's so many mechanical advantages provided by compound bows and all the weights and the like.) Also a very, very nice man.DisneyMom wrote:Yeah, I'm thinking that is the name he goes by in the SCA.....
And Lady Ulrike, which bladesmiths are you referring to? Personally, if I could afford it, I'd get a blade from Master Oso (but then again, I've known Oso for as long as I've been in the SCA, and his brother Rock almost as long.)

The SCA sounds very much like something I would want to join... just one slight catch...being in Florida and all...
Although I am sure there is one here...

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

When you join those groups, how do you determine what "role" you get? Do they have "openings" in a set cast, or do you just pretty much decide by yourself?CBeilby wrote:*nods* Paginus Grimlove. I've never been in it, but I've been along side it quite a bit as all my theater friends and some of my debate friends as well (in high school and college) were involved with it. My understanding is it's *huge* and everywhere throughout the US... I'm guessing you wouldn't have to look hard to find a chapter of the group. Now finding the time to add something like that to an already busy schedule...that might be a little harder.Big Wallaby wrote:The SCA sounds very much like something I would want to join... just one slight catch...being in Florida and all...

Re: SG Packin' Heat
The SCA is actually worldwide, there are branches everywhere. You pick your own role, so to speak, but it's not a performance thing. It's a non-profit educational organization, so for those that have the time, during the week we go to schools and such and talk about the middle ages and then on weekends hold tournaments and such, basically just for ourselves.

That would be very neat to do. Not a chance I have time right now, but perhaps down the road...

What kind of time and costs does it require? Monthly meetings, etc. Dues?

Why do I see a future Safari truck with a hand out the window holding a lance. "Just for Jousting practice" of course.Big Wallaby wrote:That would be very neat to do. Not a chance I have time right now, but perhaps down the road...
