Vietnamese names don't transfer well to English, do they? I went to elementray school with a recent immigrant named Dung Phuc. Fifth grade was pretty horrible for him.screnwriter wrote:I worked with a lovely Vietnamese girl named "Bich", which is pronounced 'beak'. Of course I could imagine some midwesterner visiting the park and saying in a loud voice, "Say bitch, can you give me some help here please?"![]()

I worked at a company where one of the manufacturing supervisors was named Long Dong. He got paged a lot.DevilDuckie wrote:Vietnamese names don't transfer well to English, do they? I went to elementray school with a recent immigrant named Dung Phuc. Fifth grade was pretty horrible for him.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

We were searching our college's directory for "Hung" and found "Hung Phouc Luong."
Someone once sent Jay Leno a to-go menu from the "Hung Far Lo" restaurant.
On another note, some names that otherwise sound innocent just aren't meant for those automated school/company email address generators that run the first initial with the last name (e.g., [email protected]). Among those I heard at my school: gayass@myschool.edu, erector@myschool.edu, stuck@myschool.edu

That person with the last name "Rector" would have a problem with many letters. No matter what the first letter in their e-mail address, Rector is just going to mess it up.SRT_GB wrote:Among those I heard at my school: gayass@myschool.edu, erector@myschool.edu, stuck@myschool.edu
And with you being in the Seattle area, wouldn't a lot of people love to have that first one?
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?
