Hatwriting Trick
Hatwriting Trick
Not sure if this qualifies as a guest or CM trick. Maybe it's a little of both.
A friend of mine was hatwriting in the Main Street Mad Hatter when a family walked up to her wanting a name embroidered on a Mickey hat. They prounounced the name "shi-teed," but when she asked them to write it out, it read Shithead.
There are certain rules governing what can and can't be embroidered on hats (first name only, only one name, etc.). When I worked at DLR, hatwriters were allowed to ask guests for ID if they weren't sure if the name met the guidelines (like if they wanted "Mickey" embroidered, since Disney character names were also not allowed unless that was the person's real name). Problem was, the family was Middle Eastern, and my friend didn't want to offend them by asking them to prove that Shithead, pronounced "shi-teed," was someone's real name. So, she embroidered the hat.
Moral of the story: Someone, somewhere out there, has a Mickey Mouse ear hat embroidered "Shithead." And we'll never know if that was someone's real name or a big time SGT.

Re: Hatwriting Trick
LOL...sounds like they were messing with her. I have had quite a few Mid East friends over the years and worked for a few also and the pronounciation you gave and the actual spelling really doesnt mesh. BUt then again, who knows? Each region does have some interesting and different spellings that when pronounced sound nothing like you would think they would.
When in doubt get your supervisor. But really what stops people from going to a friend with an embroidery machine and having what ever they want put on the thing after then wearing it on the next trip?. Or they could order the ears before their trip. THat reminds me, I need to order my flashy ears, I just found out the other day I can get 2 pairs for $20 with an AP. Shoot, buy them both and sell the extra on EBAY for the original price. I make out like a bandit. LOL THO...the extra pair will prob be waylaid by the little monster.
Well at least she wont ruin a $14 pair, just one for $6..lol

I LOVE that skit! Gotta correct you though, I'm pretty sure it was Nic Cage instead of Kevin Bacon.BRWombat wrote:Kind of like that SNL sketch with Kevin Bacon, where he's all worried about what to name his kid, thinking of all the ways others could mess up the name. Then a deliveryman arrives with a package for "Asswipe Johnson."

Sounds like a classic urban legend to me, transformed to fit Disney.

Re: Hatwriting Trick
Yep, the Asswipe skit was Cage. Beautifully done, where his wife went through so many normal names only to have him complain of how the kid would be teased with a name like "John".
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?
