If you're going to Australia you owe it to yourself to break up the trip with a stop in Hawaii. I've done the fifteen hours in coach multiple times and, trust me on this, cattle cars are much better.
Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Definitely going to have to try that in future, hobie, but this time, it's gonna be the cattle car for me! From here to LAX then from LAX all the way...wish me luck with it! I think the six hour layover in LA is going to feel like the longest part (and of course the joyous 5 hour flight to get to LA to begin with. That's going to be the worst bit, I think.)
Which reminds me I'm supposed to be packing. . .

You're bringing back memories of my life as an international traveler. I can dimly remember all the callouses I built up on my butt. :D:
With six hours to kill you should hop into a cab and go to Marina Del Ray for some air and food. It's about three miles away. Or, maybe DM will take you on a tour! I believe you'll have to go through security again in the int'l terminal so might as well do something interesting.
While on the planes, get up for a walk once an hour and drink lots of water. The water will help with jet lag.

DM I sent you a message- will email too. With my ambulatory issues (it takes me forever to get anywhere--taking off shoes/etc at security is a major nightmare for me) I can't risk leaving the terminal between flights- have to make this in one running go. Besides knowing how flights run out of here (late) I don't really expect that the layover will be as long as it's supposed to be in reality. They never are dealing with the airlines here!
I am however thinking I may end up in the LA area for a few days at least later this year and I PROMISE that if I am I want to meet up with you, DM if at all possible! And believe me, it is still in my future plans to visit DL and I need a knowlegable tour guide to buy lunch for *coughDisneymomcough*! :~D
I hadn't meant to just drop the news so quickly- but things have gone to Warp 10 around here and I'm leaving a lot sooner than I expected. I will let you guys know when I arrive, promise (soon as I wake up LOL)
Thank you for the tips, hobie! Taking serious note of them. I know I'm going to be trashed when I get there but thankfully I don't have anything on the immediate agenda after I arrive besides recovering from the trip. I'll be there for a good long while before I have to make the return.
have to run for now- much more later on.
Better days ahead for me- much better days.
MUCH love to you both, DM and hobie!!!

LAX is a small city. Take a look at it in
Google Maps satellite view. The Bradley International Terminal is the building on the left end with the checkerboard roof.
You'll fly into one of the seven domestic terminals. There is a bus system that runs between terminals.

APEC is coming to town and will hold its final event next door to DVC in Ko Olina. Based on past events I hope Disney is ready to repel rioters.

You would think the cost of travel to Hawaii would reduce the number of protesters there might normally be at a conference like this.

That may be the plan. There are, however, enough local groups with an axe to grind to still make it interesting.
The good thing about Ko Olina security is the lack of a lot of roads leading into the resort. If security controls the roads they pretty much control the resort.
