I arrive at the parking structure with my wife and daughter. We ride the tram to the gates, jump off with the crowd and stroll to security. A quick look through our bag and we walk to the gates. After a short wait in line, we get in and a CM comes up and lets us know that he is on his way.
After a short wait, through the left tunnel, Walt comes through smiling and waving. A few hugs and hand shakes later, he asks if we are ready for our tour and we spend the day walking and listening to Walt as he tell us all about Disneyland and the inspiration behind it. We have dinner at club 33 with Walt and finish the night in VIP seats listening to the Firehouse Five plus 2. Walt walks us to the front gates. More hugs, handshakes and thank you's and we board a tram back to the parking structure and head home.

Elena & I have "wormed" some of the secrets out of a few of the CMs about how this attraction operates. (We're never ones to let things lay & just enjoy the ride!) We know the "gangways" lift into the ceiling to facilitate the motion of the cabin. We also know that the initial "plunge" is quite a steep & long drop...about 20 feet. We know how "light speed" is achieved. What we want is to see it all in motion...from the outside.
It is one of our favorite attractions, but is quickly becoming one of those that is becoming increasingly difficult for me to ride. All those sharp turns, drops & such are just getting to be too much for my aching neck & back to handle any more, so we go on the attraction sparingly. However, we do go up to say hi :waves: to those CMs onstage whether we ride or not.

I've also been backstage at Tower of Terror. I've seen the HUGE electric motors that control the drops.
You mean the motors in the basement are not real????
I have not been so upset since I found out the Hydrolators were not real.

I don't know if it is still there, but many years ago the Orlando Sea World had a simulator attraction that used the same technology. I believe it was something about a trip to Atlantis. When you exited the ride there was a small side room that had a window showing the exterior of the nearest simulator. And there were two monitors that showed the movie and the cabin in that simulator. So you could watch the outside gyrations and match it up to the movie and watch the effects on the riders. Not everyone noticed this room that was open to the public but a bit off the direct exit path.
It has been a VERY long time since I took the trip away from Disney property to SW and so I don't know if they still have the viewing room (or even the ride mechanism).

Permit me to suggest two options:
1. Ask to sit in the first or second row. They have the least motion.
2. Ask for a "flight check". This is the same show with no motion at all.
Both will let you meet your friends and enjoy the attraction, without adding Tylenol to the flight manifest.

oh zazu, you're talking to the wrong person about the front row...elyse once said (and i quote) "if i can't sit in the back row i'm not goin' on at all"...the back row is where the best ride is and if she can't get the best ride she'd rather not go at all (and i'm guilty of the same thing)
...so we no longer go on indiana jones like we used to either...but it makes it all the more special when we do :D:

Let me say first & foremost:
Seeing our friends IS the most important thing at this point.
Second...
What's this business about "Tylenol"?
I have REAL drugs for my pain...

Well, it happened...
DLAlpine made one of my dreams come true the other night!
I got to ride the merry-go-round, essentially, three times in a row!!!
It went for it's normal length the first go round, but then DLAlpine asked if I wanted to stay on...I was stoked. He told me that because it was the last ride of the night, he was gonna let it run a double length time...it was sweet, sweet music to my ears~
Bubbles, bubbles everywhere! Bubbles that I was blowing, bubbles that my girlfriend was blowing & bubbles that DL was blowing.
A truly magical end to a weather perfect day...the park wasn't crowded either! What more can ya ask for? DLAlpine...I LOVE YOU
:skellingt
And, be nice to the Easter Bunny when you take him back home!
