One of my daughters daycare teachers is heading to the LA area next week. The woman is not too street smart, and does not drive. She plans to stay at a motel6 in Hollywood, and get around by transit.
Is she out of her mind? She wants to visit Disneyland & Knotts, and seems to think there is some sort of tourist shuttle or public transit that can get her to the parks.
I am envisioning her ending up with some very expensive taxi rides in order to get to the parks. Should I suggest she re think her plans?
She should probably consider a hotel in the Anaheim Resort area or Buena Park. Some of the larger hotels have a shuttle to the theme parks or offer discounts on shuttle services.
Is she a member of CAA (Canadian Auto Club). If she is, she should make a visit to an office and speak with a travel agent.
To get to DL and KBF from hollywood by transit is complicated. It involves a lot of bus transfers and a lot of wasted time in traffic.

No CAA for her. I dont think she is using a TA either, or she would not be at a motel 6! She seems to think that Hollywood is still in its glamour days, not the sad place it is today.
Suggestions for bargain hotels in Anaheim or Buena Park where you would feel comfortable putting a friend ?

Please, please tell her to rethink her plans. Hollywood is not a safe place to stay, and a Motel 6 is just asking for trouble. LA has terrible public transportation, and if she doesn't drive, she's going to have a really tough time as a tourist. Encourage her to just stay in Anaheim if the parks are her main priority. It'll be a lot simpler to arrange a shuttle service or tour group to go visit Hollywood than to stay in Hollywood and find a way to Anaheim.

The parks are not her only focus. She also has tickets to see a few tv show taping s at various studios. I fear she is in for a very disappointing visit ! I suggested staying in Anaheim or Buena park, I think she might look into it. Trying to convince her that this is not the hollywood of the 30's is falling on deaf ears unfortunately.

I went to a convention in LA several years ago (same one I went to again on Pasadena recently) we stayed with a friend who had an apartment in West Hollywood. Transportation was craptastic when he couldn't drop us off or pick us up. One night we had to walk the 3 miles back to his place from the Grauman's Chinese Theatre (closest Subway station) in the dark at 2am. I was most displeased... I never ever want to do that again.
She's crazy.

After driving and walking around Downtown LA last night at around 1am, i have to agree with everybody here. Get and OC room. PM littledollclaudia, she can help.
BTW Downtown at 1am made me feel like i was in Grand Theft Auto. *shudder*

and they are real,
and they are real."

It's a good thing your real mothers never found out.
