Thank you for the warm Welcome! I am sorry for your Mother's loss. Losing a family member is very difficult. Is your mom alone? That was the toughest part of losing Riker was the silence of the house. Riker was very special to me because he has played nurse to me for several years. I have a back injury in which I had surgery, the surgery went bad and I got two infections, another surgery, a picc line for 8 weeks in my arm in which my lovely wife gave me IV antibiotics,a third surgery to remove the hardware. All in 6 months time. My sons both moved out of the house on their way to college. It was just Riker and I during the day. Every time I moved he moved with me. My wife put a pill fob on his collar and my pain meds in it. In case, I go trapped on a floor where my pills weren't she knew he was always with me. My pain is horrible at night and I used to get up and go lie downstairs on the couch. Riker always came down and found me on the couch and gave me a big hug. Which consisted of putting his nose in my armpit with a huge tail wag. He knew when I was in pain and would stay that way longer when it was bad.

The reason I was asking if mom was alone was that elderly people need the companionship. I would not consider myself elderly but I sure did love the companionship he gave me. The new dog Riley is pretty good but he is more entertaining with his puppy ways.

Whoever created Dug in the movie "UP" was a golden owner and lover. The character was a perfect Golden Retriever............ "My name is Dug. I have just met you and I love you"'. It cracks me up every time!

You had a great buddy pbb. Don't worry about Riley. The puppy will wear off and he'll be a good friend too.
