Even this lifelong Dodger fan has to take off his cap at this.

The fact that George's Tampa Shipyard did a fine job on my four favorite locomotives helps a bit.

Even this die-hard Red Sox fan bowed her head and wished him peace. It was sad news no matter which team you root for.

He certainly created a harsh rivalry between the NYY and BoSox but he also supported one of Boston's charities, The Jimmy Fund, even donating the buried Ortiz so they could auction it off.

I couldn't resist this.

No disrespect intended of course. Steinbrenner wasn't one of my favorite people, but the Yankees wouldn't be where they are now without him.

LOL, I'd fire Billy Martin, too. Get 'im, George.

I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan as well and I have to say that while he was the guy you loved to hate you have to appreciate how he ran his team. He wanted to win and did everything he could to make it happen, and was actually quite the philanthropist behind the scenes.

He was also classy in defeat, at least to his opponents if not his own managers lol. In 2004 after the Red Sox overcame a 3 games to 0 deficit to beat the Yankees in the ALCS he told the security guards at Yankee stadium to "leave the lights on and let them enjoy this. They've earned it." While the Red Sox and their fans celebrated on the field.

RIP George.
