the person said he saw and smelled smoke, and that some CM's were running towards the area

Well, I know that is exactly what happens on all (well all that I'm trained on) attractions when the fire alarm goes off, if the CM does not push the button to acknowledge that they heard the alarm in a set amount of time (a very few seconds, quicker is better) Although that doesn't necessarily mean this is what happened. The sound can be turned off and lights turned on at anytime really. It's all controlled from the main console.

Yes. If PotC had a real fire the fire alarm is set to disable the special efect fires to not confuse fire fighters.

If there was a real fire at Pirates, all the fake fire would turn off and the work lights would come on....and when was this supposed fire?
