Real Fire on Pirates?
Real Fire on Pirates?
on another forum I visit NOT board "X". There was a post that there was a fire in one of the scenes. They said all the interior lights came on and music went silent as the boats were cycled out.
I was wondering if there is any truth to this story.
Thanks

I checked on this because I was surprised that I hadn't heard about it if it had happened.
There is no indication that the story is true.

Last time I rode, there were scenes full of fire.

Re: Real Fire on Pirates?
It could be there was some other issue with the ride that required it to be cleared of riders, and the person reporting that it was due to fire mistook the cause of the shutdown as such. It wouldn't surprise me, since some of the "fire" special effects can be quite convincing.
Re: Real Fire on Pirates?
Probably this. If there were really a fire in the attraction, there's little to no chance that they'd cycle the ride out. More likely they'd dump pumps and run a full fledged evac. Cycling the ride out in a fire is asking for a lot of trouble.PatchOBlack wrote:It could be there was some other issue with the ride that required it to be cleared of riders, and the person reporting that it was due to fire mistook the cause of the shutdown as such. I suddenly had an image of an SG going up to a CM, and saying "May I have some trouble?"
Re: Real Fire on Pirates?
Ah, we're fresh out of trouble. I'll have to go in the back and get some freeze-dried trouble. If you'll excuse me....

I need to ask an "Is it true?". There is a special effects kill switch for emergency crews so they won't be confused between the fake fire and real flames. Is it true?
I'd imagine every attraction has an e-stop switch, but this is supposedly a special one for the fire effects.

Re: Real Fire on Pirates?
Actually, the fastest and safest way to evac most any attraction in the event of any emergency is to cycle it out. We don't want to shut down when a fire alarm sounds as that could leave guests stranded in a room with fire. Ride evacuations take a good bit of time and are not ideal in any situation, especially a fire. Chances of a fire are slim at WDW anyway. Every structure have fire sprinklers that put out a LOT of water all over the place and have specialized fire suppression equipment where needed. All buildings and rides have fire alarms with smoke detectors, heat sensors, and other fire detection equipment. All buildings are regularly inspected by the fire department to make sure there are no hazardous conditions. The fire alarms are fully tested at least once a year to make sure all of the sensors and pull stations work properly. There has never been a severe structure fire at WDW as the Reedy Creek Fire Department and Disney work hard to prevent them from happening.CBeilby wrote:Probably this. When the alarm sounds the cast immediately begin emergency cycle-out procedures, they stop loading the ride and dispatch vehicles (on dispatch attractions like Pirates) as quickly as possible to get the guests out of the ride. The queue is cleared and the fire department is called. All these things and more happen immediately and for the most part at the same time. Only after the ride is clear will it be powered down.
My understanding is that if the fire alarm sounds in POTC all fire effects turn off automatically so that firefighters don't waste time fighting fake fires.Moonliner wrote:I need to ask an "Is it true?".
