It is always easier to shoot off the show (if it can be done safely) than to have to pull the shells back out of the mortars.

I can honestly disagree with this. We were there last year and even during a mosoon-like downpour, the fireworks were going off. I had made a run for it for the first raindrops, so I was under and then on the monorail, but I got to see Wishes for the first time that night.

I don't believe that would be a reason. I've been there when they've done Wishes in monsoon-like weather.

I read the same thing on another board, but now i can't remember where. I do know someone who was in the park that night, and apparently the fireworks stopped just after the castle attack, and he said it was very surreal since it ended with Hook taking over. LOL He had no idea what had happened, though.

But I guess with all the pyro going off on and around the castle... some moron could have thought the castle was really on fire.

If it's true, then that's one of the stupidest guests I've ever heard about. Talk about ruining it for THOUSANDS of other people...

Yes, there was a 911 call that indicated a possible structure fire at the Castle.

Yes, per SAFETY procedures, all fireworks were stopped. Then the structure and surrounding areas were checked for a fire.

When all SAFETY procedures were run AND THE AREA SECURED, fireworks reset to the point of interruption and resumed.

It is not stupid to think that there is a fire ANYWHERE and report it to 911.

It is STUPID to think that there is a fire and NOT report it to 911.

As for the thousands of people that we inconvenienced by SAFETY, tough. They would have been more inconvenienced by the stampede trying to get out (or get their video cameras rolling for media pay off) if there had been a fire in progress.

Although you did a great job of putting us all in our place, I think you are missing an important ingredient here. Is it stupid to call in a fire during a fireworks display that centers around the castle when there are literally thousands of people surrounding it with a better vantage point then where you are? Is it stupid to not use common sense, in this case, and disrupt a very expensive show and inconvenience many, many people because you don't have the sense god gave an ant? Is it stupid to call in a prank call just for grins and giggles when something real could be disastrous and out of reach because of this response?

The answer is YES!

Now if I'm, lets say, driving down a street and I see a house on fire or looks like it is, there is not a crowd around and I don't call 911 then I am STUPID. In this case...use your head. Not every situation calls for the same reaction.

Torn on this one... I used to go into elementary schools for career day and explain 9-1-1 and proper usage. While it's for emergencies, we used to explain to the kids that if they felt they needed help, then it was an emergency and we would rather they call. Our city's fire chief stated he would rather incur the expense on sending three trucks to a false call than miss the one, and most everyone agrees.

However that was not for the most magical place on earth.

To the average guest, they think there are millions of CMs because they see us everywhere. Every time you turn a corner, there are five of us there. Wouldn't a normal guest think to notify a CM or ask if something went wrong instead of calling 9-1-1 during a fireworks show at arguably one of the best show production companies?

Surely they have to believe there is more than just some guy with a lighter setting off these things with his brother holding his beer and a bucket of water as the 'lookout'.

The show is put on very well (got to actually sit down err stand and watch it with the family). I'm sure I could peg the scene this was called in during as the castle does seem to be in distress during the show because that's part of the show. (almost)Everything at Disney is put on extremely well and believable. That's why the guests are willing to pay the price to come in.


I do believe once the call came in, the response and how it was handled was absolutely correct.

In Frontierland, I have seen a few trash can fires. If we know where the fire is, we do contact DLPark-Hail and tell them the situation. Or usually I see sercurity keep the area clear and see the fire department put out the can with a few buckets of water. Now, if the park was on fire which I have not witnessed yet, I am sure that everyone would be cleared from that area until it was safe.

Back in the when the People Mover caught fire in the Tron exhibit, ODV was located near that area. We were evacuated to the Inn Between and kept there by the managers until it was cleared. That was the longest 3 hour break for all of us. :)

Have never heard of DLPark-Hail. Simple trash can fire is easy to put out. Think most CMs have done a few.
