A man walks in the woods for 3 hours and stops to rest. He gets up and starts walking back to his car. After an hour he plops down on the ground exhausted and 4 miles from his car. He has no food or water nor did he bring a tent or warm clothes.

That is how I see my disabilities. I am fine for that first hour or so but then I am stuck at the other end of the park, mall or store and so tired with no way to get back to my car.

My trip in 1998 to WDW was rather easy for me because I used an ECV. It can be a 3 to 10 mile hike around parks including transportation and getting into your hotel room. There are a wide variety of pavement like dirt, asphalt, grass, wood, planks, carpeting, cushiony floors, and cobblestones. The ground may have cracks, be buckled, or have steep grades. There are long walks, for slow people like me, in the sun or rain at times. You may end up in a long line just to get past a traffic jam.

Use an ECV but do not depend on it at all times. That list has some great and cheap ECV companies that deliver to your hotel or airport. Ask for a wheelchair and the airports will take you from the curb to check in and then to the waiting area in a chair or courtesy vehicle. Save your strength as I found out on my recent trips. Saved energy adds up and helps you not be a crank broad at the end of the day.

If you can stand then it might be more fun to see Oh Canada standing for example. It is easier for me to waddle through shops in a tight area than try to get people to open the door and let me in. Last trip was a pain because I had to get mom in a door with a wheelchair and nobody to open a door. Most people would help but there was those times, scream.

If you have a special diet you will need to contact WDW or at least read the menus to see what you can have. They make allergen free meals on request and will cook food with no salt added for example.

http://www.wdwmagic.com/ is one of the better run sites and I avoid those that have dozens of affiliate ads. I am scared I am going to click on the wrong one but that one is good for planning.
http://www.wdwmagic.com/menus.htm has some menus.

Planning ahead helps make the trip more fun. I took a trip to Escondido and knew where everything in the park was and even got in for free because I read the site info and new that they allowed a companion in for free with a disabled guest.

I would agree with the disABILTIES Forum at http://www.disboards.com but then maybe I am a bit prejudiced about it since I am one of the two moderators for that forum. We work hard to keep the disABILTIES FAQ up to date, and you may find the discussions there useful.

I have a wide variety of problems including being nuts, bad back, obesity, food allergies, vision, and sometimes sugars. I do not work for any board but my own so I can say that the Disboard is the best around for Disabilities.

A lot of people do not realize how varied disablities can be. Even autism can vary from person to person on how to have a really happy trip. You cannot just say that a person has autism, bad back, allergies, or other health issues and each issue has within it variations.

I hope the ladies will do me a favor and bring me back a ton of Figment pins and souveniers. Hint 50th coming up. :D:

Being nuts? :notallthe Is that REALLY a disability at a major playground where you don't have to act your age in the first place? If so, Elena & I have been disabled for years & years!

We do suffer from our aches & pains... our nephew calls it "A.G.E." ]has to top me every chance she gets, so she also has had a tri-level neck fusion & heart by-pass heart surgery. (Sometimes we even pay attention to the warning signs preceeding the entrance to the "rougher" attractions... sometimes

Welcome to #50! It hardly hurts at all & it surely beats the alterative! But, pray tell, what are "Figment" pins? Obviously, something that can't be gotten here... so you'd better spill the beans. (That is, if a dream can become a reality...)

Pin collecting. I collect figment pins like you see with the pin traders. I have a figment somewhere and would love to stuff my house with figment stuff.

I am looking forward to 50 as it is a time of the discounts, woot.

I have just the thing I want to send your way. Foot-tall bobblehead Figment. Quite cool.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

I'm almost embarrassed by just HOW many pins I own... :o:
I'll have to take them out & admire them sometime...
IF I can find all of 'em!

You'll have to let us know what you already have so there

Figment is one of our favs here too. It is funny because my DD has a huge puppet one that she wanted from last trip and everytime she shows it to someone they havent the foggiest who it is. We get questions like..."what movie was that in?" Is that really a Disney character? and my fav "What is that?"

See my avatar for a good pic.

I'd play along and be like "see what? Whatever it is you see must be a figment, oh never mind!"
