Sign? What Sign?
Re: Sign? What Sign?
Unless a miracle occurs, I don't think it'll matter. My sister has cut me off, in case nobody got that message a month ago, and she's told everyone in the family to have nothing to do with me. They aren't in any position to help, anyway. My landlady told me this morning that she needs to know my plans by Tuesday. At least I think that's the day she said--I was too upset about the fact that yesterday she taped the oven shut and put a sign on the stove to not use the oven. WTF???? Here I had bought a box of Bisquick, for the express purpose of making biscuits with it--yes, I know it can be made into pancakes, etc., but I had been craving biscuits. She finally got a new gas range to replace the increasingly failing electric stovetop she had after Christmas, and I used the oven a few times. But that is a major slap in the face. She has another, nonfunctional electric range to store pots and pans in, plus a nonfunctional dishwasher to store dishes in, along with cupboards. Look, I know there are differences between American and Vietnamese culture, but give me a break, will you?
My landlord and landlady don't own this house, they rent it and sublet the rooms. I checked Social Services, and it seems the section 8 program (housing choice voucher) is on hiatus and they aren't taking any more applications. I took the test for the Census the other day, got a score of 26 out of 28, but there's still the background check. And they call people in the order of their test scores--if you're a veteran who scored 28, you'll be the first one they call; civilians who scored 28 are next, and so on, because veterans have a preference in hiring. I have no kick with that, they deserve it, but regardless, it's going to be a while before they call me. I applied at Chick-Fil-A, and called, and they said they're still looking at my application and will call in a week or two. Either way, even if I did get a job, it's too late to make any difference. My landlady even called in her brother who speaks better English to make sure I understood that I can't stay if I can't pay rent, and I told him that there is no way my sister will reconsider her position.
Tripod needs medication, which runs out Tuesday/Wednesday; I have her prescription at Target on Bristol. My church isn't really in a position to help with my rent--$450--because we're small. We had a food ministry but had to stop it because people were abusing the system. I have some food, but really need the use of the oven. Tripod has food for the time being, and litter. I hate to keep asking people for help all the time, because I was raised to work for my living, but when jobs aren't out there, what can you do? The social system is under strain because they're in the same boat. I'm so sick of being kicked around, I hate moving, and I just wish I could go to a home I will never have to leave because it's mine. That would be the only time I wouldn't mind moving.
I am so sick and tired of trying to live a normal life, having goals and dreams and having them kicked out of my hands, and denied the right to have what everyone else takes for granted. Forty-three years ago, my parents were told by a bunch of quacks that I had a learning disability and that I would never be able to drive, live alone or hold down a decent job. It took me 35 years to find out they were wrong. I never had a learning disability; but my parents, family and classmates decided to believe otherwise. I swear all my life my family has looked for ways to get rid of me. Bunch of psychos.

Re: Sign? What Sign?
feline, you'll sluff my ideas off....but for what it's worth - go to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Yes, realize you aren't Catholic. Doesn't matter. My Mom was raised in Delhi & the family still gives to Our Lady of Guadalupe because this church supported Nana's family for a very long time. Mom gives back to Our Lady of Guadalupe all the time. We send 2 huge trucks with fresh food over twice a week. There are help programs for many needs. Yes, & I know you aren't of the culture, but so what?! No big deal. Have forgotten who the priest is. Doesn't matter. Just go over & get free food, help for dear sweat Tripod & yourself. I understood Tripod was being treated @ B P PetsMart & a gal was driving you over & helping with Tripod's meds? Call CIN & ask them to help with Tripod's meds. Alex is the groomer over @ B P PetsMart. Super great guy! Call him & ask for ideas. Hopefully you can get valid some help soon.

Re: Sign? What Sign?
Well, here's the thing, I got a call a couple of weeks ago while waiting for the bus home from the research center, and it was a message on voicemail. The quality was poor, but the woman said her name was Laurie, so I thought it was Churchy. Tried calling her back, no answer. I messed up trying to save the message, so I emailed Churchy, no reply. I sent her an ecard for Christmas, but I'm not sure if it was ever picked up. The one lady from CIN is sending me money for Tripod's medicine, so that's okay; another CIN friend is offering food for her. Okay, got it, the church you mentioned. I've had so much on my mind lately I can't keep track of it all, and plus I was stuck inside with this rain. I got out today, came home and discovered a virus had attacked my computer, infecting IE, so one of my roomies installed Firefox. That's why I'm on here later than usual--and I have to be up at 8 to get ready for church, and I still haven't had my shower yet. A fatal case of mutant smallpox on those who create and send out malicious computer code! I'm ready to take a shotgun to this dang thing as it is. I checked the location of the Legal Aid Society, and it is dangerously close to my sister's home. Maybe I should stick with divine retribution. It's cheaper and more efficient. No proof required.

Re: Sign? What Sign?
R.I.P. my computer.
I found VIPRescue on the Microsoft site as an antivirus system cleaner and downloaded it (Sunbelt Software), but the next day, I was downloading some more updated when my computer's monitor went black, then wouldn't boot up. I tried several times. Dang it, I hate it when I never can get around to making recovery disks, then when I tried to make a set the first one wouldn't come out of the drive, and I never got around to making another try.
That's why I wasn't on here yesterday--had to go to the library, and while reading my email I got a survey that took forever, and I swear they have these things on dialup. But I'm on here now; someone--I'm not saying who--blessed me with a replacement hard drive, and I never got around to doing a data recovery. One of my roommates says he never saves anything; if he has to replace a hard drive he just does it. I could try to replace mine and see how it goes. I know of a site called allbootdisks.com, and last I checked they did have a boot disk for my computer and they aren't expensive.
I did get Tripod's medicine, BTW--my friend sent $40, and it cost less than $32. So nice to have some folding money in my pocket!
So far my landlady hasn't said anything to me about what my plans are. I found out that the Housing Choice Voucher/Section 8 program is not taking anymore applications--the wait list closed five years ago.
Mainstreeter suggested I contact Churchy, so I had to go join Mouseplanet's Mousepad, and she was very rude in her reply. That site is not easy to naviagate; I'm going to go close my account over there. This library is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so unless and until I get my computer up and running, I'll post whenever I can.

Mainstreeter, do you own a farm to be able to send two truckloads of food every month? If so, are you hiring?Main Streeter wrote:feline, you'll sluff my ideas off....but for what it's worth - go to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Yes, realize you aren't Catholic. Doesn't matter. No, I was getting Tripod's meds through my vet, then he sent me a prescription so now I can get them at Target. One lady was giving me rides in April and October so I could get Tripod to the vet twice a year for bloodwork. Another lady is paying for Tripod's meds. Her husband has had to go to Egypt for work. That is so wrong in a country like ours, one of the wealthiest in the world, to have so many people in want.

No. We grow no food at our ranch. Family has restuarants & markets, & vast contacts for 2 trucks per week, plus this was a commitment made yrs. ago by my Mom. I have nothing to do with the business. The brothers handle everything. Yes, we are always hiring so I'm told. Are you absolutely fluent in Spanish? This is a must.felinefan wrote:Mainstreeter, do you own a farm to be able to send two truckloads of food every month? If so, are you hiring?
