People like that should be used to test drugs on... At least then they would be contributing to society instead of making things worse for MAW families.


I always let MAW families go ahead of me. I've even given up ADRs because the MAW child really wanted to eat at a restaurant and they were packed solid.

I even perfected the art of sleeping standing up on WDW busses (at age 10!) because I always used to give up my seat for older people. Can't anymore though, my bad knee prevents that.

I had a similar experience. I was on Astro when I loaded a mentally challenged guest into a rocket. When the rockets stopped and let in the pre grouped guests onto the flight deck, there apparently a group that didn't get a rocket. They pointed out that the mentally challenged guest didn't get out so they told me to get the "Idiot" out. My jaw dropped, his exact words. I couldn'rt believe my ears.

Ohh you get the jerks like that all the time. Now my stupid guest was not going against a MAW family but rather fighting with another family in line. Well when they got up to the atrraction and loaded the front family got out. I did not know there was anything wrong so I sent the car. Next thing I know I am ducking a half full water bottle to the head. Thankfully it only hit my arm, but the guest was aiming at the other guest and I got in the way. What really made me mad was the guest that did the throwing had a baby on their hip. How good an example is that?

I don't know how you kept calm through that, I would still be screaming at her.

I was blessed with one healthy child, one sort of healthy child (severe asthma), and a train wreck of a little one - but we take it in stride and have never asked for special treatment at the parks. We are fully aware that there are kids out there that have far more serious issues than our own and we have always gone out of our way to help them if we can at the parks. No one should have to miss out on the magic, unless they're a selfish bitch then all bets are off! :twisted:

The sad thing is how often this happens- that people are absolutely idiots and jerks to the MAW families. When I'm taking pics of characters I'm often acting like another attendant, and depending on how our lines are arranged, where the official attendant is at that moment, and where the MAW family is approaching from, I'm sometimes the one that is holding up the line to let them in with the characters.

Most of the time the families at the front of the line are very understanding. Most of the time. But there are enough of the idiots out there... Grrrrrr

On the other hand, being able to take part in the MAW moments, even as a photographer just stepping back and trying to capture it for them has to one of the best parts. I've shed more than a few tears as I was blessed to watch that wonderful interaction that the characters are so great at having with those kids.

Sigh indeed... this one brought me out of the woodwork.

We were granted a wish a few years back and it was the most magical time of our lives. I could tell you one brilliant CM story after another. We really had no idea of all the lovely things that could happen to us, so surprise after surprise came roaring at us at top speed.

I remember two character moments....

My son and I were off to the side watching his sisters and Dad get in line at MGM to meet someone -- can't even remember who that was -- and King Louie came over to visit Kevin. Of course I couldn't keep the tears out of my eyes at such thoughtfulness.

Later on, same scene different place, this time it was Pinocchio -- he snuck right up on us! Same tears. Later on it was Meeko. Anyway, you get my drift. I had never had so many tears of joy in my LIFE!

Kevin can't talk, but he can hear and smile and he knew he was the King of the Hill that week. All because people like YOU take the time to show him and us just how special he is. I can't adaquately express the difference you made in that trip, and how those small moments are still with us to this day. I also can't deny that tears are running down my face as I type this.

As far as the evil Evil EVIL comments... we've heard them before, and they hurt like heck. My heart breaks for that poor faimly -- and I thank God for you and your actions. All of you make up for it time and time again -- even if we aren't a wish family anymore -- there are moments of magic every day of every visit.

I firmly believe that the family you met up with at LMA remembers YOU more than they remember that b****. The kidness stays with us all much longer than the cutting comments.

Back to you -- sorry to drop in on your board like this, but it seems appropriate at this time, and it's something I've always wanted to say to all of you.
