Re: Guest who earn a one way ticket to hell
I am a greeter and I was working with the Pinocchio crew at Town Square at MK one morning which consisted of Pinocchio, Geppetto, Foulfellow and Gideon. Pinocchio and Geppetto had a line and Foulfellow and Gideon were free roaming.
I knew our next set would be missing Pinocchio and as I was messaging this to the line, a family comes up and Mom shows me their GAC, with the green stamp, as well as their pink Make a Wish button. The son was in a wheelchair with an oxygen tube and looked obviously ill.
Now, I expedite my Make a Wish families no matter what so I put them next in line. Ooh boy, did the next woman in line freak out! Ok, I tell her. I will make you my last family after them. I also explain that Pinocchio is not gone for the day, but will in fact be back in about 30 min.
You would think that she would accept this and move on, but no. She has decided to hassle me for the benefit of the others in line behind her. She loudly begins asking me questions about why they get to cut in line, and is it just because "the kid" is crippled? SHE is crippled too, (pointing to a lady using a cane that wasn't even in the line) are you gonna let her in too? At this point the MAW family has now gone up to Pinocchio and Geppetto and I can see the mom is upset by this ranting woman. Knowing that the woman in line may not have seen the pink button or was aware of the situation, I quietly said "This family is here with Make a Wish foundation and at WDW we expedite their visit with us by eliminating as much of their wait time as we can."
This usually shuts people up. (Yes, I have had to use this line way too many times). But no, now the second woman in line has piped up with, "I have a disability that should make me as good as some dying kid!" I could hear the mom start to cry. That was too much.
Steam came from my ears as I looked at these useless people and said. "Are you seriously begrudging a Make a Wish family extra time? And comparing your pathetic disablity to their situation? Are you kidding me??!??!" (I guess I was shouting.)
Meanwhile, at this same time, my wonderful Pinocchio and Geppetto, finished up with the MAW family and escorted them over to Expo Hall and my saviors, Gideon and Foulfellow came up and hooked their arms in mine and "helped" me off set before I said anything really foul.
I wanted to punch them all.

I feel for you and any of our wonderful character escorts/friends/assistants. (not sure of the correct term) You guys must put up with a tremendious amount of grief. We all develop friendships with some of the ones we see often.GreetThis! wrote:Steam came from my ears as I looked at these useless people and said. By the way, I am posting this in memorioum. Today, I recieved a email from the family of a MWK/GKTW kid that I had befriended at my Job as a photographer at Universal. The email informed me that he had lost his fight with Leukimeia and passed away at his home over the weakend. This young man was a shining star and even though he was twelve, he was without a doubt, one of my heros.
We'll miss you Joey, Rest in peace. Barney won't be the same without you. Your friend, D. C.
VISA. It's everywhere you want to be, and a lot of places you don't.

Narcissism at its worst. That just gets me. Agggggggggggggh.
This makes me so mad. Any so rude to complain about terminaly ill children getting a little consideration should be forced to wear turtle necks not to amplify the heat but to hide the foreskin.
On a better note I want to thank every guest who steped aside and waited one or more turns or simply gave up their spot to a special needs child or to a GKW family. It happens more often than the guest get credit for. Thanks.

That would not work as those type of people do not care if the kids are dying or sick. It is obvious that the rest of us would stand in the sun for an hour to give a sick kid happiness and walk a mile just to help that kid. Those type of people are so tired, sick or selfish that they cannot see the damage they are doing. I have seen this happen outside amusement parks.
your ranting is tantamount to a preacher preaching to an empty church, the heart is dead and cold so no matter what you do nothing will warm it and teach it the compassion you have in your heart.

GreetThis, that is a HORRIBLE story. I know what you mean, because I have issues with guests and MAW/GKTW kids. Can't people have more compassion? These kids are dying/extremely ill. This is one of the things I hate about my job (otherwise it is great). If I had had to deal with that "woman" (or the one from the OP), I would have given her a good piece of my mind.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

Re: Guest who earn a one way ticket to hell
One time I was operating Woodstock's Airmail in Camp Snoopy, and there were several kids and teens with H/C passes. After I load the kids on the ride, run the cycle, and as I'm letting them out, one girl with a learning disability (I didn't normally look at the condition on the pass, but saw it anyway) asked if she could ride again. And again. At which point this woman asks why they get to go ahead of everyone else. I explained that they had handicap passes, it was park policy to let them in through the exit, and this obviously just-out-of-her-cave-after-a-thousand-year-sleep insensitive woman says, "They don't look handicapped to me." I told her that there are handicaps that were not as obvious, not all people with handicaps are in wheelchairs, and so on. Actually, I later found out that H/C's wanting to ride again have to wait one cycle before re-riding. I remember seeing this in an advice column: this older gentleman drives to a fast food place, parks in a handicap spot (he has the placard), goes in, and gets a dine-in order. As he's sitting there eating, he notices that the teenagers staffing the place are looking at him, his car, and back at him again, and are talking quietly among themselves. After the guy finishes his meal, and is about to leave, one of the girls working there had the nerve to tell him that she and her co-workers had been looking at him, noticing he had a handicap placard on his car, and came to the conclusion that he didn't deserve to be parking in the handicap spot, because they couldn't see any handicap. After the gentleman recovered from the shock of this bit of news, he asked the kids, "Do any of you have hip replacements?" No, they didn't. "Do any of you have arthritic knees?" No, they didn't. "Have any of you had heart bypass surgery, and have a pacemaker?" No, of course not. "Well, I do," said the man, "so therefore I do deserve to have a handicap placard, and park in the handicap space." I bet those stupid kids learned a lesson; I doubt that guy went back to that place again. It didn't say if he contacted management and told them how thoughtless and rude his young employees were. Despite years of making everything accessible, having handicap events, etc., there are some people out there who are still stuck in the Neanderthal phase of evolution.

Kwahati, thank you for that support. Yes, that is MY quote and you are more than welcome to use it whenever you like. As for everyone else who wrote, my heart hurts at the knowledge that IQ's are sliding down faster than the meal the SG more than likely pestered and gave grief to the CM that tried to help them so nicely. Where is Louie Anderson's moron gun when you need it? :bang: I don't want to see you for 10 minutes..:guest slumps over:Oh damn that means that 80% of guests would be in comas. I know my percentage is high but have you dealt with the guests this year?? Wow.

That is so horiibly that I actually cried reading it while sitting at my work desk. I have a 4 year old nephew who has been granted a trip to WDW by Make-A- Wish and I pray to God that nothing like that happens to him. I hope that there will be great CM's there like Driver Dylan who will make his trip great. We will be there sometime in May of 07' and I hope to show him all of the places that I worked at there and meet the great people that make the magic happen. It's ashame that the guests can't be trained on how to behave as well as the CM's have.
