Actually, when I worked at Knott's, there were some days when the park was closed due to rain. But I can remember two times that it was "closed for rain" early, which must've really surprised the guests, for there were clouds in the sky, but the sun was shining! Why did they close the park early (1:30 p.m.), you ask? We flunked DOSH inspection and were forced to attend a "retraining" meeting and take the recertification test. I was there from April '03 to December '05, so it was while Jack(ass) Falfas was in charge. Then last winter ('04-'05), there was a day the park SHOULD'VE been closed, but wasn't. All day torrential downpour, hardly anyone there, most rides down due to rain, and there I was, at Calico Railroad, soaked to the skin (we weren't allowed to have rainproof covers on our conductor's hats--management said it "didn't look professional"). I think I forgot my storm suit that day (good jacket, crappy pants). So for the last two hours the park was open, I and my co-workers huddled in the depot, the train crew in the locomotive, waiting for guests that never came. While we were sitting there, the engine was burning fuel for no purpose. I forget how much fuel the engineer said we wasted when I asked, but it was quite a bit. Knott's was so afraid of losing a few dollars in tourist revenue by closing the park early, but they ended up spending more by wasting train fuel--not to mention causing air pollution! Someone should crack open the heads of managment and see what's inside their skulls--I guarantee you it won't be brains. Sand? Pus? Sawdust? A vacuum? Fill in the blank?
