Rainy Day Issues
So, now that we are starting to get into 'hurricane' season and we have our afternoon thunderstorms back... what are some of the problems you have to deal with due to the rain?
Yesterday, I was at unload at Kilimanjaro. As you know, our unload platform is small and covered. It can fit just about as many people as the trucks can. The problem is the fact that it is covered. Because as soon as you leave the platform you are out in the downpour with very little cover. So as soon as it starts to rain it becomes very difficult to pursuade the guests to move out of the way. Yesterday I was screamed at, threatend, spit on, and one of our coordinators was pushed down while trying to get these people to just move out of the way. Seriously, how selfish can people be. We couldn't unload any of the trucks behind them because it was a saftey hazard to move any trucks with that many people on the dock. That ment that dozens of people were stuck sitting in trucks waiting for nearly ten minutes while we threated to call security to get those people out of there.

Eh try being on TTA and going down to find the exit blocked! I swear either these people do not understand english or don't know what Move! means. My brother who is 5 almost went face first into the floor because he couldn't get off. I hate rainy days in MK or anywhere in disney.

Try rainy days at Knott's. For safety, we had to shut down most of the rides when it rained, and people would still go from ride to ride asking if we were open. Then of course there was that delightful task of trying to convince them that there were safety issues. Practically everything in Camp Snoopy would be called down in the rain; and you try telling somebody who wants to ride that they have to wait until the rain stops and the ride units, track and anything else that could mean trouble when wet are dry. And if you had downpours like we did last winter, about the only things running would be the trains; I don't think they'd run the Stagecoach if it was pouring. We don't get much lightning here in SoCal, but there would be rides called down for that, as well as high winds. Again, try reasoning with a guest determined to ride, come hell or high water. Yeesh!

Since I'm in Merchandise I just have to deal with the pushy, unhappy, sometimes violent, extremely picky Guests who want Ponchos and do not want to wait in line for them, do not understand that I have them behind the counter and they are not out in the shop, or who yell at me because I'm being pulled in a million directions trying to run the store and sell them ponchos.... ah, I love the rain

Ah, welcome to Cedar Fair's management. I remember a time when Knott's would close down for the day if there were enough rain. That pretty much changed the day that Jack Falfas came a'calling. I still remember standing at the entrance to Bigfoot during the '98 El Nino season, and feeling like I was wading in a river while having to tell the guests that the ride was down (due to the lift being 101)

Haha Sounds like the exit to the Buzz Lightyear ride. People don't understand get out of my damn doorway. I had one guy tell me that he and his family would leave the shop if I stood out in the rain. Uh, Okay, I can go to costuming and get dry clothes why not? So I did. Bet he felt like an ass.Main_Street_Merch wrote:So, now that we are starting to get into 'hurricane' season and we have our afternoon thunderstorms back... what are some of the problems you have to deal with due to the rain?

Re: Rainy Day Issues
what makes it worse is that Kilimanjaro is one of the only rides in the park that does NOT go 101 for weather. (I'm pretty sure we were never officially called 101 for the situation the other day, but we were in a stop load situation for 10 mins, which, quite possibly, may be the first time an attraction has gone 101 for guests that have exited at the proper location)

You forgot the guest's shock & their reactions when told the price of the ponchos. ]CoffeeGirl wrote:Since I'm in Merchandise I just have to deal with the pushy, unhappy, sometimes violent, extremely picky Guests who want Ponchos and do not want to wait in line for them, do not understand that I have them behind the counter and they are not out in the shop![]()

Ah yes, the price issue. They come up and ask for the price- $7 adults, $6 childs. Then they are super shocked when they buy 5 of them and spend $35 bucks. Well dur! I had a CM actually tell a Guest who said she could get one at Target for $2 that she should have. That shut her up.

Is it me, or is that the most guests are rather ill prepared for being in a theme park all day? My wife and I each have a simple backpack. In it we have tickets, some extra money, ponchos, aspirin, rain jacket, hat to cover upper neck and ears, granola bars or rice krispies bars, sunscreen, a couple of pens, a sharpie marker, etc. We rarely, if ever, need to buy anything other than souvineers inside the park(s).CoffeeGirl wrote:Ah yes, the price issue. I just cannot believe that the nuclear family, which brings or rents a stroller, diaper bag, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc, does not think about incliment weather, or sunscreen, or a hat.

IMO though, umbrellas should be banned. When it rains and people open those things, they are dangerous! Guests think they are the only ones in the park! You could put an eye out !
