I'm sorry that my original no kids/no vote stance generated so much heat. I've had this discussion in a face-to-face environment and once the non-parents saw the point of the parents, they did agree with my position.

Call me paranoid but it was much easier to have a positive link between my daughter and me. All of the parks have such cool stuff that any kid that isn't stimulated should be examined.

When any kid sees something cool they want to investigate. That's good. They know where they are and where they're going. The problem is they don't tell the old man who was talking to the other kids or buying something. It's very hard to describe the reaction when you suddenly discover you're missing the light of your life to those of you that don't have kids.

It only gets worse as they get older. I've got one in her third year of college and another who is fast approaching teenager hood. The college kid has survived nicely and will graduate next June. The almost a teenager will be starting her second year of Hell which is also known as middle school. Can you say sex (some little eleven year old asshole told my daughter he wanted to do her so he could get it over with), drugs (grass almost seems like a non-issue when faced with methamphetamine), social pressures (your skin/clothes/shoes/hair/friends suck), etc. Oh how I wish a leash could solve all these problems.

Yes, parents who tie their kids up like a dog are a different matter. I find that once you take the kid backstage, tell the parents he's been turned over to DCF, and that the nice deputy sherrif will now take them for processing, they usually don't try that again ... at least with the same kid.

The parents tied the kid to the fence and wandered off to get lunch. When they came back, the kid was gone and the sherrif wasn't. They were very upset that the sherrif wouldn't let them bring their lunch in the police car. "Don't worry, you wouldn't be able to eat it wearing handcuffs anyway."

Well, the solution, leash or no leash, is simple. Ban middle school! No, seriously, our elementary school system here is K-7, and high school is 8-12. Not that much exposure to sex, drugs, and the like at all.

Maybe you don't know, but they use it to make big sticks into little sticks while sitting around a camp fire listening to stories. Sometimes adults use them when they are tying up newspaper for recycling. Even men that have a house may use one when they tie something down to the roof of the car, SUV or in their truck when they are bringing something home from Homeless Depot.

I get pissed off at idiots that let their screamers wander to the end of the leash, which then impedes everyone else that is walking, especially in the other direction.

The above describes some uses for a knife when used as a tool. In your previous message, you described using a knife as a weapon to assault a parent and child.

Do you carry a knife to acquire status because you experience failures at work, school or other types of social exclusion? Do you carry a knife with the intention to scare or harass? Do you have a substance abuse problem? Have you considered talking to a professional?

I'm a non-parent and I think leashes are a good thing. I think watching your kid is even better, but if you need a leash, then by all means.

I can't even count the number of kids that weren't mine and complete strangers that I've kept an eye on because the parents were ignoring them at the arcade or the mall or whatever. When I worked at an arcade I remember pulling a number of little ones off of a cabinet or a skeeball ramp or away from the door to the parking lot and getting yelled at by the parent for it.

It's not these kid's faults the parents suck.

As for my thoughts, I am not a parent, but I am a Godfather. I am lucky to have such a well behaved 3 year old godson but if I had to use a leash at DL I would not hesitate for a second. When you care for a child so much the thought of losing the kid for even a second is just unbearable.

Case in point one night I was scooping Ice Cream at Burr-Bank Ice Cream when I heard a woman screaming for her 4 year old girl. This was right after the electrical parade. You would have to be there to really understand how much fear, anguish, sadness, and anger that can well up inside you during such a time. After setteling her down by letting her know that security was on the way I found out what happened. Her entire family and herself was watching the Electrical Parade while eating their Ice Cream. She assumed her family was helping to keep an eye on the little girl when they were really just watching the parade and at the end of the parade the girl was swept up in the crowd leaving the park. Thankfully the girl was found at the exit by the Main Entrance CMs.

Now honestly don't you think a leash would have kept something like this from happening? Even if the child walked only a few feet away before mom noticed it was already too late! A leash would have helped not because the child was a "terror" or Hyper, but because anything can happen.
