A couple years ago, my roommates discovered a cat living under a Camaro belonging to our neighbors in our shared back yard. So that became his name. Camaro is a bit shy, but he's a good cat. Earlier this year, he had to go to the vet to drain a couple of catfight related abcesses from his shoulder. The other week, my roomies C.J. and Diane stayed a week at Diane's sister's place to dogsit while her sister went to Vegas. I fed the cats--one across the street, Camaro and Nick in our yard. But Camaro hardly came out from under the house the whole week; lots of food went to waste.
When C.J. and Diane came home, they searched for him and finally he came out. He was so out of it he couldn't find his food dish. He also was bleeding from the mouth. Diane had me look, and Camaro had bitten the side of his tongue and cut it nearly off. He had a broken tooth. So he was taken to the vet, where he was transferred to OC Animal Care. They put him on IVs because his condition was so bad. Diane has been calling them to check on him every two days. Because Camaro is in an unfamiliar place, he's been labeled aggressive, but he really isn't. If a rescue or foster care place isn't found for him, he will be put down. He's neutered and about 8 years old. What we're planning to do is once he's put up for adoption, we will adopt him and bring him home.
I'm trying to find foster care or rescues, but if anyone here lives in the Orange County CA area and is willing and able to foster Camaro, or knows somebody who can, please let me know. I'm offline Sun/Thur/Fri, but any help would be appreciated. Camaro is at OC Animal Care, his animal ID number is A1261148. He's neutered and presumably up on his shots. Thank you.
Please Help Camaro
Re: Please Help Camaro
Camaro was rescued by Pet Allies Network, but there's been a bad turn of events. I just got word that Camaro has cancer, and the quality of life is not good. I don't know who alerted PAN, because I've never heard of them before, but if it was anyone here, thank you. Now I have to break the bad news to my roomies.
Re: Please Help Camaro
It was one of the rescues I contacted, MeeowResQ, that contacted Pet Allies Network. I rushed from the library calling my roomies on the way, to the vet hospital. My roomies had to wait in a drizzle--one in a wheelchair--as two full buses passed them before a third picked them up. I had plenty of time to say my goodbyes to him. When my roomies came in, it was like there was nothing wrong with Camaro--he stood up, had his tail up, meowing and purring, even at one point jumping off the table! A lady from PAN came to say her goodbyes to him as well--she'd had a cat that looked just like him, and he'd had to be put down for the same thing. We had plenty of time, as the vet was in surgery. Finally, in a two-step procedure, Camaro crossed the Rainbow Bridge peacefully. We are very grateful to those who pledged money for Camaro's care, and for Pet Allies Network for their willingness to step in and help an 8 year old stray in the middle of kitten season. We didn't have money to take Camaro's ashes home, so they were spread at sea with other pets' ashes.
Re: Please Help Camaro
Sorry to hear abut Camaro. Isn't it weird how they can perk up right at the end there? Our old dog Ginger did that the day we had to take her in to be put to sleep. She had cancer too and it was just eating away at her.
Re: Please Help Camaro
Another cat from next door, named Roo-Roo, has already taken Camaro's place. He told one of my roomies he didn't like his name, so we're changing it to Junior.
