Hello!

Post by bsunny87 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 6:50 am

Hi, I have been reading posts for a while and now I have a trip to WDW coming up in 6 weeks. I just wondered if I could get some advice.

I am coming with my family from the UK and we are a little worried about my Dad managing. He has early stage Alzheimer's, but is still 'there' and loves rides. I think he is the oldest person I know to have been on rock and roller coaster and tower of terror 5 times in a row. From the outside he looks like a normal 70 year old, but he does struggle with confusion. He also has had 2 hip replacements and so he sometimes needs a little extra help getting in to and out of rides. We had an incident at Disneyland Paris a couple of years ago when he fell in to crush's coaster as the coaster car doesn't stop for loading. Everything was fine when we got him up again but he was upset that he had caused a delay and decided against riding anything else for the rest of the trip.

We were thinking about renting an EVC as that will be helpful for him, but as far as getting in to and out of rides, do we just speak to the cast member at loading or at the entrance?

We want to make sure that we don't cause any problems while we are at Disney World, but we also want Dad to have the best trip possible, as this is his trip of choice for our last family holiday.

Thanks in advance!

Hi bsunny87! Good for you for taking this trip with your dad and planning ahead to make it the best! While SGT is more a community than an advice site, there's plenty of very knowledgeable and friendly people here who I'm sure will be happy to help. And there are lots of resources out there about visiting the World with someone with a special condition -- a good place to start might be WDW's own Guide for Guests with Disabilities.

I'm sure others will be along with tips and pointers, but in the meantime -- I've been waiting for this -- you get to be the first person greeted with the brand new Marsupial Welcoming Committee monorail!

Greetings bsunny87, I am the resident dragon and would like to offer you a very warm* welcome to that slice of the internet we call SGT. This website contains threads with quick twists and turns and I would like to advise you to not try too hard to keep up with them. Please keep your hands, arms, and legs safely inside the website at all times and enjoy your stay.

*this instance of warm is actually hot**... very hot

**this instance of hot means that you are now literally on fire, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience

Hello, bsunny87, and welcome to this little slice of the world out behind paradise... No, we are not the apartment complex behind MK, we're a little more west, kinda out in the cow pasture.

For those wondering, we still have the old
:sgthello:
but when I agreed to have my face plastered onto the site, Wombat went nuts and created something awesome. I can finally say it publicly, way to go, Wombat!

If you really want to be plastered on the site you should get Wombat to animate the cab picture so there's a sudden stop and your face is squished on the windshield.
