Need an Advil? Call 911!
I didn't see this happen but my manager told this story twice yesterday at a couple of meetings. We got the whole lecture when its appropriate to call 911.
The other day during the rain he had to respond to an alpha unit call. When he got there he found out one of our wheelchairs had lost a wheel and dumped an argentinian girl out on the ground.
The first cast member asked if she needed paramedics once and got a no.
Then they asked a second time and again got a no from the girl.
Then the CM asked if she would like an Advil. The girl then responded yes that would be nice.
ITs at this point the CM jumped into action and called 911.
Paramedics arrive and begin to wonder why they were called. However they go into action. Its then they find out the hurt little tourist is only 17 and there is not responsible adult for her.
By law the paramedics have to transport the now scared Argentinian tourist to the hospital.
Because of this SCM. I had to listen to the appropriate time to call 911 speech twice in one day

Once in a while, it works the opposite way. I can think of 2 occasions from my coordinator days.NemoRanger wrote: Because of this SCM. I had to listen to the appropriate time to call 911 speech twice in one day
Situation #1:
I receive a radio call from Control, asking me to call the cast member at a particular location. I call, and they say that there is a guest having a seizure. I advise them to hang up and call 911.
Situation #2:
I receive a radio call from the cast member, asking me to 56 (meet) with them for a guest with a broken leg. I start to hurry over there, while asking if they've already called 911. (I hear a brief pause on the radio, then they respond that it's a broken prosthetic leg, and the guest is rather amused, but un-hurt)
Situation #1, the cast should have called 911 first. Situation #2, I'm glad they didn't call 911 first.

Non-medically trained CM's would just direct them to First Aid, Right
Lots of worse reasons to call 911,though. It's been done.....

As I started reading this, I thought "Well, calling 911 when someone was dumped out of a rented wheelchair becuase of breakage was probably the right thing to do." Then I got to the part where they asked twice and the guest siad they were okay. That's when it got stupid. Don't most of the retail spots have single dose packets of Advil you can get for like a buck or two?

We've had people who forget the number for non-emergencies, so they call park 911 because they got a papercut.

No, first aid is if you're ambulatory and only want an advil or ibuprofen. Somebody can help you over there, but generally speaking if you have anything worse than a bruise you'll be getting Reedy Creek.DisneyMom wrote:Non-medically trained CM's would just direct them to First Aid, Right
