Jonathan Frid who played the original Barnabas Collins on "Dark Shadows" passed away on April 13 at the age of 87.

Johnny Depp commented.

Kind of sad he wasn't able to see the New version on the big screen. Almost made it.

I was never a big Dark Shadows fan (I preferred books), but a friend of mine and her family watched it every week day, and when I was over there I'd set the book down while Frid was on the screen. ;)

Reminds me that in Vincent Price's autobiography he mentions Bela Lugosi's funeral. While there, supposedly, Peter Lorre commented to Price as they were viewing Bela's body, "Should we drive a stake through his heart, just in case?"

RIP Johnathon

From what I've read about Lugosi -- who was known in his later years to walk down the street in full makeup just because that felt more "normal" to him -- he would probably have appreciated the gesture.
