Michael Hossack Will Not Be Down For Breakfast
Longtime Doobie Brothers drummer Michael Hossack has died at age 65.
I saw the DooBro in a dive bar in Palo Alto before they hit it big. We just saw them on Maui about three months ago.

There actually were some dive bars in PA. In Your Ear was at University and High until it burned down.Main Streeter wrote:Awwww, the Doobie Bros were cool. Too bad. R I P Michael.

There was another dump in the 500 block of Emerson that was accessed by walking down an alley. We'd go every Thursday for $.25 beer at 10 PM.

You were just across from my high school.Main Streeter wrote:Thank you! I stand corrected.I was too into Stanford poetry classes, & Kellogg & Melville corner. I never walked down or even up allies. Missed lots. ;)
The few alleys in PA weren't like real alleys where you had to watch your back. They weren't that long and always had some kinda business on them.
Another bar on an alley was 42nd Street. It was between Ramona and Bryant. Neat place with one of those belt and shaft fan systems.
Did you ever go to Chef Chu's at El Camino and San Antonio? Best Chinese food in the world.

Paly was across Alma and the railroad tracks. Probably due west of where you were.Main Streeter wrote:I was??? I don't recall a high school on that corner.I was told Melville was named after our grt grt grt & on grandfather, yet I never was sure when to believe that Scotch side of the family.
Saint Anne's was our church, thus I knew the area around Melville & Kellogg. Never ate at Chu's as I was so stubborn & was sure I wouldn't like anything but hamburgers & Mexican food. Family finally got smart & just left me at home when they went to Chef Chu's. Now I realize what I missed.

Every time I went to Chu's to pick up take out I'd get two Char Sil Bow. One for home and one to eat on the drive home.

The only problem is now I need a Chu's fix and it's 2500 miles away. :(Main Streeter wrote:Yes D M, yes, & becoming friendlier. :) LIKE!
