Please convince me I'm not crazy.

Post by KingsIslander » Sat Dec 31, 2011 2:58 pm

So, on Kings Island's applications, you have to either reapply for the same position as last year (Food for me), or pick 3 positions to apply for. For me, the food and beverage ship has sailed. My 3 choices were Guest Services, Dinosaurs Alive (outdoor trail with "animatronics"), and just regular office work.

Please convince me that applying for Guest Services wasn't stupid. I think it'd better experience for me, and I really would like being a position where I can actually help people instead of just saying "Sorry, it's policy".

I think this may have been a bad idea. :o:

Sorry,I can't help you with that choice. I deal with 'some' stupid people every day. It's a 'bear' having all this knowledge/experience and still not being believed. :(

Good luck otherwise.

Your tongue must be almost severed from all the times you've had to bite it.

It could be a fun drinking game...
-take a drink everytime:
--customer does not believe the answer
--customer interrupts before you can finish giving the answer
--goes to another employee (or CM) hoping to get a different answer
--informs you that you don't know what you are talking about
--is pissed that you didn't anticipate that he would need that tool, reservation, room, souvenir item and reserve it for him months ago

On second thought, this game would lead to mass firings for drinking on the job!

Sorry, you're on your own on this one. Be prepared to eat much crow from disgruntal guests that won't like what you have to tell them. Just smile and nod your head, and they might get tired of cursing you out after a while. ;)
P.S. make sure security is nearby and easily reachable.

I'm 99% sure that Security is always in there, lol. Also, from who I've talked to, most of what they do is actually height checks and selling tickets, and since it's located in the very front of the park, most people have actually calmed down by the time they get there. I really need the money, I wouldn't think about it otherwise!

So true.

Actually, I worked at GR at another park. Sadly, even at GR there is only so much you can do and you still will be saying "sorry but it's policy" (or something similar) a lot. Your hands are tied most of the time, and you can't always give the guest what they want (or deserve).

I actually have a interview Monday. I feel a lot better about it now, I'm really sure that I'm making the right choice not going back to Foods this year. It sounds like not many people applied for GR, so I'm pretty sure that I'll get that position.

Wish me luck! :D:

As Louis Paseur observed, luck favors the prepared mind. Seems like you've done your homework and you're feeling good about it, so I have no doubt that good fortune is on your side! Knock 'em dead!
