One of my employees will not be down for Breakfast
*Sigh*
Very tired right now. Should be sleeping. Found out before I left this morning that one of my employees had passed away. It's a bit of a tale that I am not prepared to tell right now. I am a little in shock, a little sad. Tonight's going to be rough. Wish I could call out but that will just make things worse at work. And the GM probably won't tell anyone until the morning so I have to keep it to myself.

Re: One of my employees will not be down for Breakfast
Here's what I was told happened. Robert had a car accident before Christmas where he rear-ended someone. He gave them his personal information and instead of waiting for the police he went home. The police treated it as a hit and run and issued a warrant and tracked him down. I don't think he was actually arrested and booked, but after that he apparently went into shock and sat in a catatonic state for 2-3 days staring at the wall. His wife, who does home healthcare for several days at a time, came home and found him like this. I guess she got him to talk since she found out what happened and thought he would be ok and went back to work. Two days ago she called our GM and asked what she should do because he still wasn't eating or drinking and acting strange. My GM said call an ambulance and that way Robert would at least be in a hospital and could get mental health care. I guess she hadn't been home when she called because when the ambulance arrived they said he had been dead for a while.
This gentleman was in his early 60s. Very detail oriented, very anal. He did nice work most of the time but was always moody. Lately he would occasionally come in very giddy and friendly, but if you said the wrong thing he would turn very sour. That was a little strange because he wasn't that friendly to begin with. He was also very obsessive about leaving on time and I can only guess that that was why he didn't stay for the police. It's all very sudden and a little weird to lose someone was seemed fine just a week ago.

If he had a sudden behavior change, he may have had a health concern before the accident. That may have affected the outcome of the accident. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear that :( One thing about employees, you get to know them at work, figure they'll be around. A bit like family. They'll piss you off, but you know they'll be back (most of the time).
