Japan gets Hit By 8.9 Earthquake

Post by DLRFantasmic!Dan » Fri Mar 11, 2011 2:54 am

My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan as they are hit by a 8.9 earthquake and tsunamis. The West Coast and Hawaii, as well as other countries, such as Russia, the Phillipines, and others, are getting tsuami warnings to evacuate!

I just got back from gathering up friends in low lying areas. We now expect to see the wave at 3:08 AM HST. It's gonna be a long night.

I was just about to PM you, Hobie. Please take care. Hoping to hear good news from you soon (or, at the very least, decent news that you and yours are ok).

Thoughts are with you.

Thanks! We're up about 200 feet so we shouldn't have any problems. All of our refugees are gathered around the TV watching repeats of the current news. The only news is Midway Island saw the water rise four feet.

I actually heard a newscast that said Disneyland Tokyo's parking lot is underwater. How high an elevation is DLT? Is it on the coast?

(edit)
Ah, nevermind. An explanation has already been posted...

Hobie, I'm so glad you checked in. I was worried about ya. Might as well break out the blender and start the weekend early. :p:

The reports are coming in from my friends, all of them are safe but it is not a good day in Japan. We're dealing with outages here at the office for our transpacific circuits.

West Maui survived with very little damage. The worst hit was the Lahaina harbor. The docks are about 50% destroyed. A few dingies either rolled over or sunk.

There was a rumor that a nine foot wave hit the second floor of Cheeseburger In Paradise. If a nine footer had hit anywhere in Lahaina the town would be gone. I'm calling El Toro Poo Poo.
