As far as the evac, I can imagine where the trouble is there. On one of those slow boat rides, it could be very difficult to get a boat to a place where you can quickly evacuate a guest in a wheelchair. I know if we had to evacuate a guest without mobility from Thunder, it could be an hour or more, depending on where the train is, how long it takes Reedy Creek to arrive, what equipment they need to take with them, and several other factors. And for anyone, being evacuated off a ride is always a very real risk.

Now, I have a very hard time believing that someone did not stay with the plaintiff until they could get help to him. If I had to guess, his case won't hold up when they look at ALL the facts.

I feel for the gentleman, I really do. My only question would be, if you have a condition where stress could be fatal, shouldn't you do everything possible to stay away from stressful situations? I understand that you don't associate It's A Small World with stress (unless you have to ride it twice in a row :twitch :) but surely you would know that in-show exits are a reality, and that it may be more difficult to help you exit if you are not mobile.

Or am I off base here?

I don't know the procedures at DLR but at WDW to evacuate wheelchairs from IASW requires getting the guest to sit on the floor of the boat while the boat is moved into the storage area where there is a lift and wheelchair ramps. If that is not possible for any reason a CM stays with the party and Reedy Creek is called in to assist. Calling Reedy Creek is standard procedure whenever a guest cannot be evacuated from an attraction or other area through the normal evacuation routes.

I assume that procedures are similar at DLR where a CM stays with the party and they call in the Disneyland Fire Department.

All of this is done for the guest's safety. Safety is number one. It can take a while for the fire department to arrive so the guest has to wait in the ride vehicle. Waiting in the ride vehicle is perfectly safe, boring but safe.

When we were stuck on POTC last trip, they did cut out the audio after a few minutes, leaving the Avast! talking skull at the beginning speechless

Again, I don't know for sure about DLR but at WDW's IASW it is policy to mute the audio after about 10 minutes of a ride stoppage.

On the one with the wheelchair, I think the man was in a power chair, not just a regular wheelchair. Those things weight over 300 pounds when empty. They cannot be safely lifted without equipment, and when a 200+ pound person is in it you really have to be careful.

And on the nacho cheese, I wonder two things. Dis the family go to First Aid and what action was taken. And the other is what does his "permanent disfigurement" look like after a year has passed?

I'm tryin to figure out how you drip/pour nacho cheese on your face? Most chesse I've seen/eaten turns to the consistancy of peanut butter 2 secs after you pump it onto the chips and gets stone cold in 5 secs.

a newspaper story in the San Diego paper said that they boy was in a "wobbly" chair and was about to fall over when he grabbed the table, causing a tray that had the cup of cheese to fly up and hit him in the face.

so was the kid standing in the chair? or was he tipping it back on two legs and started to fall?

my bet is that the facts will come out, and suddenly the case will disappear.
