yeah, I know this is STUPID GUEST TRICKS, but I figured it's because we encounter SO MANY of them. Well, of course, every now and then, we encounter a few that will actually make us go "AWW. .. " of course, it's usually smaller children.

One that particularly stands out in my mind, is a few weeks ago when I was working the candy cart in New Orleans. A small girl, about 4 or 5, just walks up to me, and puts some money down on the little pull-out table. I ask her what she wants to buy, and she just shrugs her shoulders. I told her that I can't take her money until she shows me what she wants. Then she took her money, and walked away. Ok, not a big deal, right? Well, within 10 minutes, I had a line of people buying candy (another spurt of guests buying shit). At a point, I saw the little girl with a light sword in her hand, waiting EVER SO PATIENTLY. . . when it was her turn, she showed me the sword she wanted, and gave me the money. I counted it, and told her that she had given me enough (gave me the exact change). I asked her if she wanted the receipt to give to her mom or dad, and she just nodded her head yes.

Now, why can't all parents teach their kids to be courteous and patient?

I know the answer to this one. It's because it's too much work and besides it's someone elses job to raise their kids, like the schools or whoever else happens to be in the child's life that is not the parents. :)

But yeah, the cute kids are like the best reason to work at Disney, if it wasn't for there I wouldn't have lasted this long. Just the other day there was this one family with three cute little kids, I asked if they were having fun and opened the flood gates, they all wanted to tell me about their day. But the really cute thing was that one would be telling me about such and such a ride or whatever and the other two would sit there saying 'excuse me, excuse me' repeatedly. They had the concept that they just couldn't interrupt they just hadn't figured out that they should just say it once and wait. Normally something like that would be really annoying but the way they did it (and I think because they were so little, the oldest was like 7 or 8 ) it was really cute.

My favorite part about encountering kids was during my first few months working on the college program when the frogs were still very little and hopping all over the place, particularly near areas with water. When I was a kid, I was constantly chasing and catching frogs, so when I was on stage I'd catch a frog and carry it until I found the nearest child(ren) and show it to him/her/them. A couple of kids were so excited to see the frog that their parents took a picture of them gathered around looking at it on my hand, and I gave it to them to carry off.

I hope no frogs died for the cause! But I figured, hey, Epcot's the discovery park and what would be more pleasing than getting a little hands-on action with a living creature?

Heh, reminds me of the time at Toontown Railroad Station I responded to screams of terror to discover they were caused by a tiny corn snake about the size of a pencil.

I picked him up, explained that he wasn't venomous, and soon had all the kids crowded at the rail closest to me to have a look and a touch ... while all the adults were cowering against the far fence. Great fun for all!

What I dont' get ... if you're so freakin' terrified of a six-inch snake, why would you let your kids get close to one?

I don't know if I will always trust a CM, I mean after all, sometimes they have wrong information. If I was scared of something there is no way I'd ever let my child by it. Now I have seen many of those corn snakes around, and I've even had one for a pet for a short time.

Then again this comes from somebody that gets great joy from scaring all the guests whenever possible. But only when I'm a gangster or bandit.

I was at Peter Pan after pyro a couple weeks ago, and these 2 really cute kids got seperated from their parents, who were waiting in line. So i took them up the exit to look for the parental units from a higher vantage point. The little boy was so excited to find them that he yells, "I FOUND EM!!! I FOUND EM!!! You know how I saw em? Mom and Dad make me eat scallops and brussel sprouts so I can have good eye sight! and im young too, so that helps alot! Does your mom and dad make you eat scallops and brussel sprouts?"
I was lying, but I said yeah. And he looks up at me and says "Arn't parents the greatest?!"

I wanted to take them home with me they were sooo cute. I stood and talked to them for 10 min while the parents waited in line. They were glad to hear that the kids were polite and well behaved the whole time.
Its things like this that can turn a crappy night into and awesome one!
