It's that time of the four-year cycle once again. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. has offered what they are referring to as their "best" offer to the Service Trades Council Union, which represents Full Time and Casual Regular Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members in most Hourly Guest Service Roles.

Agreements have been reached between the Company and STCU on all Side Letter Agreements (effecting specific Lines of Business or Roles) and non-economic matters.

Cast Members can obtain information on their respective Side Letter by contacting their Member Union.

The following Non-Economic terms, among others, have been agreed to between the two parties:
  • Right to wear Union Pins on Company-issued costumes in Backstage Roles.
  • Protection of all Coordinator positions, and the current method of Coordinator selections.
  • Protection of current Transfer Language
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. has proposed, among others, the following Economic terms:

42 Month Agreement (3 October 2010 - 29 March 2014)

Wages

For Cast Members hired before 12 December 1998
2010-10-02: $550 Bonus
2011-04-03: 2% Increase
2012-04-01: 2.25% Increase
2013-03-31: 2.5% Increase

For Cast Members hired after 12 December 1998
2010-10-02: $550 Bonus
2011-04-03: 2% Increase
2012-04-01: 2.25% Increase
2013-03-31: 2.5% Increase

Health Insurance
Negotiated Caps on HMO Costs. Average annual increases between $3 and $12 depending on coverage level and year of agreement.

Retirement
No Change

Holidays/Vacations
No Change

Random Alcohol/Drug Testing
Allowed, but only with prior Union approval.

The Company is offering Cast Members a $100 bonus if the Contract is ratified on the first vote.

The Service Trades Council Union will be organizing a vote in the coming weeks to put the proposed contract to their memberships. More information will be posted in the work areas.

That sounds pretty sweet. I haven't gotten an increase in my salary in 2 years and my health insurance went up 25% this year. And that $100 bonus would be an real incentive to vote yes the first time around.

I don't get the drug test with prior approval. Doesn't that pretty much defeat the whole 'random' part? :dope:

According to the UNITE HERE! Local 362 blog the wages section is actually:
Wages
Workers hired before 12/12/1998 – “Topped-out”
10/2/2010 - $550 Bonus
4/3/2011 - 2% wage increase
4/1/2012 - 2.25% wage increase
3/31/2013 - 2.5% wage increase

Workers hired after 12/12/1998 – “In-range”
10/2/2010 - $550 Bonus
4/3/2011 - 3% wage increase
4/1/2012 - 3% wage increase
3/31/2013 - 3% wage increase

This makes more sense to me, I thought it was strange that both before and after 12/12/1998 were the same.

According to the blog mentioned above the drug testing will apply to driving roles and only with agreement from the Union. I don't understand the union part for sure but I guess it means that if the company intends to start a round of drug testing the union has to agree to it.

UNITE HERE is recommending a "No" vote as the proposed wage increases get eaten up by the proposed increases in health insurance and will result in most CMs making less.

So Shorty, what you're saying is,that the Union over rules the feds/state on drug tests for drivers. Humm? When I was a driver, when you got the notice in the mail, you dropped what you were doin and wrote your name in a jar. THAT day,no questions asked.

I love it! Here I am a shop steward and I get news of this first from SGT.

Is this a great forum or what?!?

... yeah, don't answer that. I'm in TCU so I know that "what" is the answer.

I'm just guessing by what I read on the blog. I don't know the federal and state requirements on drug testing.

The largest thing most STCU Cast Members drive is a Van or Large Pickup Truck; and, with the exception of Transportation, WDW as an organization is generally not involved in the "aviation, trucking, railroads, mass transit, pipelines, and other transportation" industries as defined in the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.

Most Cast Members in Transportation are still subject to DoT regulations, but they have to inform the Union before they start demanding samples. It's still random - one day out of the blue the Union gets a call basically stating "We're taking samples. 'k, thanks, bye!".

Agreed! Since I found out about the follicle test, I decided that if I ever start a company, I would use that instead of the urine test, even if it's a lot more expensive.

I would rather they do drug tests than just dumb everything down (the way they have) so as to make Eisner right, that a trained monkey could do my job.
