Thank you for this board:)
Thank you for this board:)
I have been a guest at WDW many times, and I have always tried to act well. My girlfriend just found this board and I have been having a blast reading these stories. I work in retail so I can relate somewhat.
My father and brother in law give the wait staff at disney the hardest time, and I hate it. I usually go up to employees privately and apologize, sometimes give them an extra tip.
They do this because neither of them ever worked retail, hospitality, or food service before. In a country where capitalism rules everyone should have mandatory service in one of those three fields.
anyway, my gf and I will be there in a week. I shall study some more of what sets you all off and try to act accordingly :)
take care!

I've been to WDW over 80 times in the last 10 years and can't imagine why anyone would give CMs a hard time about anything. I feel for you but I feel even worse for the CMs. Life is way too short to go about looking for the negative.
I've never, ever had a rude CM anywhere. While they may be thinking SG about me, they always do an excellent job of hiding it.
Welcome - I'm new, too.[/font]

I've been reading this board off and on for the last few years... I'm preparing for another trip in December, so I've started reading again.
It really is a fun way to learn about some of the real-life craziness that goes on in Disney. Having spent some time in the service sector, I can appreciate the stories that are shared here. It's good to have a place to vent!
I spend quite a bit of my time working with funeral directors... and so I've learned the things that make their jobs more difficult--I often joke that I'm going to leave instructions in my will asking for the most complex funeral arrangements!
Instead, now I know how to make the lives of CMs at Disney miserable...
just kidding... I also find myself shaking my head at the number of rude, ignorant, self-absorbed, and oblivious people out there.

I feel for you. I used to work customer service and often recognized that an entire party may not be composed of idiots, but might contain a few. In other cases I learned to recognize the difference between disrespect and cultural, lingual, behavioral, and other factors which may just be a person acting differently from what we expect. I'm sure the CM's here are finely tuned at differentiation with the numbers and array of guests they interact with.My father and brother in law give the wait staff at disney the hardest time, and I hate it. I usually go up to employees privately and apologize, sometimes give them an extra tip.
Usually the person looking embarrassed, or bowing their head, or looking at the service person sympathetically is only an idiot because they are with this person(s), and in some cases they don't have a choice. If you are this person, I highly recommend that you bow your head in disapproval slightly as it might save you from some potential retribution.
Personally I don't care to be embarrassed or disrespected and I feel that works both ways. If I know people that act in a disrespectful manner, I may limit going out with them, if at all.
