All attractions are linked!

Post by TheyMakeMeSigh » Mon May 17, 2004 8:26 pm

After a breakdown on Thunder this past weekend (guest standing - manual E-stop) I was out at Greeter and got this:
me - "Sorry folks Big Thunder is currently not operating due to technical diffi..."
*interrupted*
guest (older large woman) - "OH YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! Pirates and the Matterhorn aren't working either!"
"Oh no!, well I'm sorry but all the attractions are operated independently and occasionally happen to..."
*interrupted*
"WELL OBVIOUSLY they're not independent because they're all broken at the same time!"
...
me - *staring*
...
:throw:

I remember one day I was at the Movie Ride and we had a power glitch and all attractions except for the Backlot Shuttles, Epic, and the other shows were down. All the guests were doing were complaining that the attractions were down, like we had control of the lightning that struck the transformer.

I remember working Rocket Rods one night and we had a power dip. Everything in the park went down except for Rocket Rods. That in itself was a feat but when every guest showed up at the same time with backdoor passes (and I had to be the one at exit) things went from bad to worse.

I don't know how I made it out alive.

WHOA!!! That does indeed sound like a crazy night. I can just imagine thousands of guests bum rushing your ride, all screaming that they have a "front of the line pass" at the same time!

Lines like this from guests, or customers in retail drive me NUTS. I've worked retail for my entire working life (until now, at DLR....thank GOD). Customers would also throw a quip like this at you expecting you to prove yourself by suddenly saying "Oh wait, you're right, I'm sorry, Thunder isn't closed, I was mistaken."

In a weird way, it reminds me of a time I was working in office supplies almost 10 years ago. UPS had been on strike, and the strike ended, and later that week someone called asking if we had an item in stock. I told her we did not (after checking), and she continued to rail at me because the UPS strike was over. Of course, the UPS strike and our stock -- to say nothing about the fact this item simply was NOT in stock -- had NOTHING to do with each other. It's like, she kept trying to convince me the UPS stike was over (which I believed) and I would suddenly say, "OH!!! The strike is over? Well in that case, that fax machine just magically appeared in stock, right before my eyes! Amazing!!"

I'm sorry, but...why were they standing up? Friggin morons..ugh. I seriously think we need to like...just strap anyone who does anything stupid on a ride up to a wall so we can peg them with oranges or tomatoes.

I wish they'd E-Stop rides over at Knott's more often when guests do stupid things. (Kingdumb of the Dinosnores for just one example)

Yeah...that lady is just the most smart person ever! They've discovered that Disney links their rides so they all shut down at once! She must be killed!

Guests just don't seem to grasp that rides break down. It happens, it gets fixed, you go on with your lives. :throw:

(sorry if I seem fiesty in this post...long day full of stupidness myself)

LOL well i had a similiar comment from a guest at Peter Pan... We were trying to hand out fastpasses for Star Tours instead of Peter Pan to people whose fastpasses were missed through a lengthy 101.
A woman looked at me after me having apologized and offered her the ticket and said; "You know, tickets REALLY should be cheaper on days when you plan on having attractions break down like this."
"Madam, we certainely do NOT plan on having attractions breaking down in the middle of rush hour - but you have to understand these are extremely complicated machines that run day out and day in for years!"
"Well, thats all good, but its very suspicious that it breaks down right at lunch hour!"
"I assure you, madam, that our lunch breaks are not depending on the attraction breaking down - we have dedicated mechanics who are working on the problem as we speak, and as you see us operators and greeters are quite busy taking care of our guests and trying our best to make the best out of the situation."
"Ah, ok, I guess you are right. But don't let the attraction break down again within the next two days or there will be trouble. My husband is a lawyer, you know."
"Madam, please believe me when I say we do not let the attraction stand still like this on purpose. Plus, if you are here several days in a row then I can always arrange for your fastpass ticket for Peter Pan to be valids at the same time tomorrow instead...?"
"Nah, just give me the Star Tours one instead. I didnt want to go on Peter Pan anyway..."

*gaaaah*
:x

DLP's Peter Pan has Fastpass?

"A little swordplay, now and then, keeps my mind off sheep!"

"You're messing with my Zen thing, man."

"Dreams are as portals,
flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,
but I can write dreams,
they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."
