The tsunami siren went off at 6:01 AM. We're in good shape as we're on the west side of the island and up about 200 feet.

TV news says gas stations and grocery stores are swamped.

I'll post updates as events occur.

I've always had a itch in the back of my head to one day move to Hawai'i.

However, I've always been horrified of something like this, particularly because the islands are so small, and it has the potential to effect so many people.

Stay safe, everyone :( .

Glad to hear you're good, and calm enough to be online. :)

Thanks for the thoughts guys. The east side of the Big Island may take the brunt of the wave. Hopefully everyone on that side of the island can get to higher ground. Most of the bars are along the coast line so we may have a few dry days.

I went for a bike ride through the neighborhood and the Kaanapali resort. The resort is a ghost town. All the tourists have headed up the hill and are parked throughout our neighborhood. One of the neighbor's kids are selling lemonade and sun screen. Everyone I talked to seems to be in good spirits but it may be gallows humor.

I'll check back later.

The last siren just sounded.

TV is showing vacant streets.

The highway between us and the rest of the world has closed.

The local CBS outlet has a camera running on Hilo bay. It'll show the first hit for the island chain.
